National Sports Day 2026 Inaugurated at BRIC-IBSD, Imphal


Three-Day Sports Celebration to Conclude with Cycle Rally on 30th August

National Sports Day 2026 is being observed across the country from 28 to 30 August as a three-day nationwide campaign themed “Tribute, Play, and Move,” commemorating the birth anniversary of Major Dhyan Chand on 29 August and promoting sports, fitness, and youth participation. Marking the occasion, BRIC-IBSD, Imphal, inaugurated its celebrations with great enthusiasm, commencing with a floral tribute to the legendary hockey icon in recognition of his outstanding contribution to the nation’s sporting heritage. The inaugural function was graced by Smt. Sanggai Ibemhal, Hockey Coach, Sports Authority of India (SAI), North Eastern Regional Centre (NERC), Imphal, as the Chief Guest.

Presiding over the function, Dr. Nanaocha Sharma, Director (Additional Charge), BRIC-IBSD, highlighted the significance of sports in promoting physical fitness, discipline, teamwork, and overall well-being, and emphasised its role in character building and youth development. The proceedings reflected the spirit of the national slogan “Khelega Bharat, Jeetega Bharat,” reaffirming the Institute’s commitment to fostering a culture of fitness and sportsmanship among its staff and scholars.

The inaugural day, 28 August, featured the Fit India Pledge, a welcome and a keynote address by the Director, a speech by the Guest Sportsperson, and the distribution of sports uniforms, followed by competitions in Badminton, Table Tennis, Blind Hit, and Spoon Race (for women). On Day 2, 29 August, competitions will continue at the SAI Complex, Imphal, featuring Football, Tug of War, and Musical Chair, culminating in the announcement of event and team winners and distribution of prizes to the achievers. The three-day celebrations will conclude on Day 3, 30 August, with the “Sundays on Cycle” bicycle rally from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM, underscoring the campaign’s broader objective of encouraging physical activity and community participation. Through this celebration, BRIC-IBSD, Imphal, reaffirms its continued commitment to promoting sports, fitness, discipline, and community well-being among its staff and scholars, in alignment with the national vision of a fit and sporting India.
