The Department of Social Justice and Empowerment (DoSJE) under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Ramakrishna Math & Ramakrishna Mission (RKM), at Ramakrishna Mission, in National Capital today.

The aim of signing of MoU is to implement ‘Creating Intergenerational Bonding’, a nationwide initiative aimed at strengthening the emotional and cultural connection among children, parents and grandparents through the school system.

The MoU was signed in the presence of Union Minister for Social Justice and Empowerment Dr Virendra Kumar, Minister of State of Social Justice and Empowerment Shri B.L. Verma, Joint Secretary, DoSJE, Shri Sajeesh Kumar N. and Director, DoSJE Ms Kajal Singh and RKM Secretary Swami Sarvalokananda along with senior officials of both the organizations.

The signing of the MoU reaffirms the Government’s commitment to respect for elders and inclusive development for every generation, reflecting the Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision that ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas’ is complete only when every generation moves forward together.

Addressing the gathering, Dr Virendra Kumar said that the families are the foundation of our society and this collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission will help our children, parents and grandparents rediscover the value of togetherness. He added that every generation must walk together for the nation to move forward, which is the true spirit of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.’

Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Shri B.L. Verma said that under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, our government remains committed to strengthening family bonds across the country. He said the MoU with Ramakrishna Mission will help create a replicable model that brings three generations closer together through our schools.

RKM Secretary Swami Sarvalokananda said that Ramakrishna Mission believed in service through education and character-building adding that the Mission is glad to partner with the Department of Social Justice and Empowerment to help families rediscover the wisdom of their elders and pass on shared values to the next generation.

In his opening remarks, Joint Secretary, DoSJE, Shri Sajeesh Kumar N. outlined the Department’s vision for the initiative and welcomed the collaboration with Ramakrishna Mission as a step towards building sustainable, school-based models of family engagement.

In his Vote of Thanks, an official from Ramakrishna Mission extended gratitude to the Ministry for its support and to all the dignitaries for gracing the occasion.

The MoU provides for research into the intergenerational challenges faced by modern-day families through qualitative studies covering 50 representative schools across four regions of the country. It also includes the design, pilot-testing and finalisation of 20 evidence-based Co-Learning Games for use in schools.

A bilingual English-Hindi Resource Centre website will be developed to support teachers in conducting sessions. The initiative will also include certification training for teachers and the roll-out of Co-Learning Game sessions across 200 pilot schools nationwide.

An independent assessment study will evaluate the outcomes of the initiative and inform its future scale-up across the country.

The initiative builds on the Ministry’s existing senior citizen welfare ecosystem, including the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVYAY). It is designed to enable elders to pass on wisdom and values, parents to bridge tradition and modernity, and children to grow up rooted in culture while feeling emotionally secure.

Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, an institution inspired by the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhans and Swami Vivekananda and backed by over a century of service in education, health, culture and humanitarian work, will serve as the implementing partner for the initiative. A Knowledge Development Partner will support the research, design and assessment components.
