Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah chaired a review meeting on issues related the state of Goa along with the Chief Minister Dr.Pramod Sawant, in Panaji today. The meeting was attended by Union Home Secretary, Director, Intelligence Bureau, and other senior officers of Ministry of Home Affairs, Goa, Indian Coast Guard and other concerned organisations.

During the meeting, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah was briefed by Goa Chief Minister, Chief Secretary and Director General of Police on important matters pertaining to law and order in the state. The agenda included discussions on implementation of three Naveen Nyay Sanhitas, matters related to NDPS, coastal security, fugitives’ matters, disaster management, police modernisation, administration of enemy properties and deportation of illegal migrants especially those involved in crimes and narcotics and drug offences, and other important matters.

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah appreciated efforts of Goa Government and State Police for taking several key initiatives to maintain law and order and coastal security in the state. He said that these efforts have contributed towards making Goa, ‘NashaMukt’ and successfully dealing with cybercrimes. Shri Shah urged the state government and all stakeholders to make a comprehensive security assessment related to emerging security challenges. He said that there is a need to ensure constant monitoring of important trends and patterns, cross linkages of various kinds of crimes, inter-state movement of criminals and coastal security. Shri Shah said that all steps taken by the MHA and state government should ensure that Goa becomes top state in terms of law & order in the country.

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah said that the Modi Government is committed to ensuring that the smaller states get full support and professional assistance in all administrative matters, capacity building and development related issues to realise the goal of a Viksit Bharat by 2047.

Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah said that Goa has full potential to become a model state in the country and this beautiful state, achieving all targets of security and development, will become “भारत माता के माथे की बिंदिया।

The officers of Goa Government informed the Union Home Minister that a declining trend is being noticed in violent crimes in the state. However, cybercrimes, crimes related to narcotics and foreigners-related violations need strict action in the state. DGP, Goa informed that the initiatives are being undertaken by the Goa government on coastal security, cybercrimes and narcotics matters in a comprehensive manner. The DGP also informed that after implementation of three Naveen Nyay Sanhitas and effective implementation of ICJS, the conviction rate in the state has gone up to 53% from 22%. In many instances, the courts are now able to decide criminal matters within 6 to 8 months.

Chief Minister of Goa assured that the state government will work under the guidance of Union Home Minister and in close coordination with central government for making Goa a model state in all aspects.
