The two-day RISE Conclave 2026 concluded today in Kolkata, bringing together scientists, researchers, academicians, industry leaders, entrepreneurs and start-ups to strengthen linkages between research, innovation, technology translation and enterprise creation.

The 6th edition of the Conclave was inaugurated on September 6 by Dr. Jitendra Singh, Vice-President, CSIR and Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences, who emphasised the need to strengthen the journey of indigenous technologies from laboratories to the marketplace. The program was started by delivering welcome address by Prof. Vibha Tandon, Director, CSIR-IICB. During the inaugural programme, inauguration of the state-of-the-art National Facility on Good Laboratory Practice (GLP) Testing at CSIR-IICB, aimed at strengthening high-quality, reliable and internationally aligned testing capabilities. A sophisticated 600 MHz NMR facility was also inaugurated, further enhancing the Institute's advanced analytical and research infrastructure facilities were inaugurated, technology transfers and MoUs were undertaken, and compendiums , and Booklet on National GLP Test Facility of CSIR-IICB were released, underlining the focus on translating research into tangible outcomes. The Conclave recorded eight MoUs, four technology transfers, two product launches and one facility inauguration.

 

 

 

The second day also featured four panel discussions and a special lecture, covering critical minerals and new materials, science communication, science-driven start-ups, manufacturing technology, and traditional knowledge and modern innovation. The discussions brought together experts and industry representatives from organisations including NTPC Mining Limited, Hindustan Copper Limited, Engineers India Limited, Council on Energy, Environment and Water (CEEW), All India Radio, Emami Limited, TCG CREST, Himadri Speciality Chemical Ltd., I Can Nano, MASOJA Techno Solution Pvt. Ltd., Varionhub, Patanjali Research Foundation, Jadavpur University, Himalaya Wellness Company and L’Oréal India, among others. CSIR-IICB organised the concluding panel discussion, on “Traditional Wisdom to Modern Innovation”. The panel highlighted opportunities for connecting traditional knowledge with contemporary science, research and innovation.

The sessions covered critical minerals, materials, science communication, entrepreneurship and technology translation, highlighting stronger research–industry linkages.

A special lecture on “The Lab-to-Market Leap” focused on translating breakthrough research into market-oriented ventures. 

The Valedictory Programme brought the two-day Conclave to a close in the presence of the Chief Guest, Dr. Kalyan Chakraborti, Cabinet Minister-in-Charge for Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Information Technology and Electronics, and Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal. Prof. Vibha Tandon, Director, CSIR-IICB, introduced the Chief Guest during the valedictory session and highlighted the significance of collaborative efforts among research institutions, industry, government and entrepreneurship.

Dr. Kalyan Chakraborti, Cabinet Minister-in-Charge for Science and Technology and Biotechnology, Information Technology and Electronics, and Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal, highlighted the role of RISE in connecting academia, industry, government, research institutions, start-ups and entrepreneurship.

He emphasised the journey from research to innovation and innovation to entrepreneurship, and highlighted the potential of science and technology to advance self-reliance, Viksit Bharat and Viksit West Bengal.

The programme concluded with Prof. Bikramjit Basu, Director, CSIR-CGCRI, Kolkata, delivering the Vote of Thanks. Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, Director, CSIR-CMERI, Durgapur, and Prof. Vibha Tandon, Director, CSIR-IICB, Kolkata, also contributed to the proceedings.

The RISE Conclave 2026 provided a platform for sustained engagement among research institutions, industry, start-ups, entrepreneurs and policymakers, with the objective of accelerating the translation of India's scientific capabilities into technologies, enterprises and solutions contributing to Viksit Bharat 2047.
