A media delegation from Telangana, currently on a press tour of Gujarat organised by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Hyderabad, visited the Dholera Greenfield Industrial Smart City and the historic Harappan archaeological site of Lothal today.

At Dholera, the delegation received a briefing on the integrated master planning, plug-and-play industrial ecosystem, trunk infrastructure and future expansion plans of the greenfield smart city.

Interacting with the media, Shri Rushin Bhatt, Joint Managing Director, Dholera Industrial City Development Limited (DICDL), along with Ms Adhiti Goyak, Marketing Manager, DICDL, explained the development of smart utilities, logistics connectivity and the investment potential emerging in the region.

 

Later in the day, the delegation visited Lothal, one of the prominent settlements of the ancient Indus Valley Civilisation, dating back around 4,500 years. The journalists explored the excavated site, including the ancient dockyard, warehouse complexes and urban drainage systems, gaining insights into the advanced engineering, town planning and maritime trade practices of the Harappan civilisation.

The delegation also reviewed the development of the National Maritime Heritage Complex (NMHC) at Lothal, being developed by the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways under the Sagarmala Programme, at an estimated cost of ₹4,500 crore across about 400 acres.

 

Officials briefed the delegation on the key attractions of the NMHC, including maritime galleries showcasing India’s 4,500-year maritime heritage, a life-size recreation of ancient Lothal, a Lighthouse Museum, a 5D Dome Theatre and an Aquatic Gallery etc . The complex will also include coastal state pavilions, theme parks, eco-friendly transit and visitor accommodation facilities.

 

The visit highlighted the convergence of development and heritage conservation, with Dholera representing India’s emerging industrial and infrastructure capabilities, while Lothal reflects the country’s rich civilisational and maritime heritage.

The tour provided the journalists an opportunity to witness first-hand the Central Government’s efforts towards development and heritage preservation, in line with Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Vikas Bhi, Virasat Bhi’.
