NITI Aayog organized a National Workshop on “Strengthening the Ayush Ecosystem in States and Union Territories” on 8^th September 2026 at Hyderabad, Telangana, in collaboration with the Ministry of Ayush, Government of India, and the Department of Ayush, Government of Telangana. The workshop was convened to advance the agenda of strengthening the Ayush ecosystem across States and Union Territories (UTs), facilitate peer learning, and identify good practices that can be adapted and replicated across States/UTs, taking into account their respective contexts and priorities.

The one-day national-level workshop was inaugurated by Shri Prataprao Ganpatrao Jadhav, Minister of State (Independent Charge), Ministry of Ayush, and Minister of State, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, as the Chief Guest. The workshop was chaired by Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, Member (Health), NITI Aayog. Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, Secretary, Ministry of Ayush, along with senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO), Ministry of Ayush, Ministry of External Affairs, Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of Telangana, and 29 other States/UTs, participated in the workshop. The event also brought together sectoral and technical experts from Ayush regulatory bodies, research councils, academic institutions, standardization and quality-assurance organizations, industry associations, and other national-level institutions. The workshop was conducted as a part of the NITI–State workshop series, an initiative under the State Support Mission (SSM).

During the inaugural session, NITI Aayog and the Ministry of Ayush jointly presented the thematic framework “Building a Strong Ayush Ecosystem for Viksit Bharat@2047.” The presentation highlighted the key priorities for realizing the Ayush-related goals of Viksit Bharat@2047 and emphasized the critical role of States and UTs in strengthening the Ayush ecosystem.

The workshop comprised three interactive roundtable sessions focusing on strengthening the Role of Ayush in Public Health and Integrative Healthcare; strengthening Ayush Education, Research and Innovation; and globalization of Ayush: Regulation, Quality, Standards, Medical Value Travel, and International Collaboration

The sessions provided a platform for States/UTs and other stakeholders to deliberate on key challenges, share experiences and good practices, and identify practical pathways for strengthening the Ayush ecosystem. The discussions also underscored the importance of contextualized approaches, inter-sectoral convergence and stronger Centre–State collaboration for accelerating the development of Ayush.

In his concluding remarks, Prof. (Dr.) M. Srinivas, Member (Health), NITI Aayog, emphasized that the deliberations of the workshop should not remain confined to recommendations but should translate into concrete, measurable and State-specific actions.

The workshop thus marked an important step towards strengthening the Ayush ecosystem through coordinated action, peer learning and Centre–State partnership, with the overarching objective of positioning Ayush as an integral component of India’s public health and healthcare ecosystem and contributing meaningfully to the vision of Viksit Bharat@2047.
