The second day of the inter-state media exposure tour to Chhattisgarh provided journalists from Odisha an opportunity to explore the rich archaeological and cultural heritage of Sirpur, one of the State’s prominent historical sites. The media delegation, led by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Bhubaneswar, visited several monuments protected and conserved by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI).

The visit provided media representatives with first-hand exposure to Sirpur’s historical heritage, enabling them to understand the architectural significance, archaeological discoveries and cultural traditions associated with the ancient site.

During the heritage tour, the journalists visited the Laxman Temple, one of Sirpur’s most significant surviving monuments, and observed its distinctive brick architecture, intricate decorative elements and sculptural craftsmanship. The delegation also visited the Baleshwar Mahadev Temple and Surang Tila gaining insights into the evolution of temple architecture and religious traditions in the region.

The media representatives also explored Sirpur’s Buddhist heritage through a visit to Tiwardev Vihara. The excavated monastery and its structural remains offered the journalists a glimpse into Sirpur’s significance as a centre of Buddhist activities and cultural exchange.

The delegation was briefed on the historical background, excavation findings and architectural features of the monuments. The on-site observations enabled the journalists to gain a deeper understanding of the coexistence of Hindu and Buddhist traditions and the rich cultural landscape of ancient Sirpur.

The visit was facilitated by Manamohan Padhy, Assistant Director, CBC, Sambalpur, and Bikash Ranjan Dalai, Information Assistant, PIB, Bhubaneswar, who accompanied the delegation during the tour.

The visit is part of the media exposure tour designed to familiarise journalists from Odisha with Chhattisgarh’s heritage, development initiatives and cultural diversity, enabling them to bring these stories to a wider audience through informed and first-hand reporting.
