To commemorate International Coastal Cleanup Day 2026 and promote the message “Swachh Sagar, Surakshit Tat – Yahi Pehchan Hamari”, Indian Coast Guard Air Station Daman, in collaboration with local volunteers and stakeholders, organised a coastal clean-up drive at Devka Beach, Daman on 19 September 2026.

Devka Beach, known for its scenic coastline and natural beauty, was the focal point of the environmental initiative aimed at raising awareness about marine pollution and promoting collective responsibility towards the protection of coastal ecosystems.

The clean-up drive witnessed enthusiastic participation of approximately 600 volunteers, including Indian Coast Guard personnel and their families, NCC cadets, college students, students of Coast Guard Public School and local volunteers. The participants worked together to remove approximately 350 kg of waste, comprising plastic waste, discarded fishing gear and other non-biodegradable debris posing a threat to marine life and coastal biodiversity.

The initiative was aimed not only at cleaning the coastline but also at fostering long-term behavioural change by encouraging responsible waste disposal practices and greater environmental stewardship among the community. Participants were also sensitised on safety measures to be followed while venturing into the sea and were briefed on the safe collection and proper disposal of marine waste.

The Commanding Officer, Indian Coast Guard Air Station Daman, expressed gratitude to all participants and stakeholders for their enthusiastic involvement in the initiative. He highlighted that such community-driven efforts reinforce the Indian Coast Guard’s commitment towards safeguarding the marine environment and promoting sustainable use of coastal resources.

The International Coastal Cleanup Day-2026 campaign held at Devka Beach conveyed the importance of collective action in addressing marine pollution and preserving India’s coastal ecosystems. The active participation of the Indian Coast Guard and the local community reaffirmed the shared responsibility towards keeping the coastline clean, safe and environmentally sustainable.
