Indian Railways has approved the upgradation of the electric traction system from 1x25 kV to 2x25 kV on the 73 Route Kilometre Savalyapuram-Guntur section of South Coast Railway at a total cost of ₹142 crore. Covering 146 Track Kilometres, the project will strengthen the electric traction infrastructure and enhance its capacity to support growing railway operations.
The upgradation of the electric traction system on the Savalyapuram-Guntur section forms part of HUN Route 8, covering the Vasco-Gadag-Guntakal-Nandyal-Savalyapuram-Guntur-Vijayawada route.
The upgraded traction system will strengthen the power supply infrastructure for electric train operations on the Savalyapuram-Guntur section, enabling Indian Railways to cater to growing traffic requirements more efficiently. The intervention will also reinforce the capacity and reliability of this important HUN route, supporting smoother train operations and strengthening the overall rail network in the region.
This upgradation reflects Indian Railways’ continued focus on modernising traction infrastructure, enhancing network capacity and preparing the railway system for future traffic growth.
