Tripura Higher Education Minister Kishor Barman, addressing the valedictory session, said the success of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 would depend on effective implementation and tangible improvements in the lives of students, particularly those in remote areas.

He said education should move beyond degree-oriented learning and equip students with skills, critical thinking, creativity, entrepreneurship and adaptability. He called for greater emphasis on internships, apprenticeships, incubation and entrepreneurship programmes to enable students to become job creators.

Barman also proposed greater collaboration among Northeastern states through faculty networks, shared research infrastructure, student mobility and joint research projects. He identified five key areas emerging from the conclave—access, quality, skills, research and innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Additional Secretary, Higher and Technical Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India, Anandrao V. Patel, stressed the need to integrate skills, industry exposure and multidisciplinary education into NEP implementation.

Patel highlighted the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme and said industry-academia collaboration was essential to prepare students for changing workplace requirements. He also called for greater student mobility across the Northeast through multiple entry and exit, credit transfer and the Academic Bank of Credits.

He said achieving the target of 50% Gross Enrolment Ratio by 2035 would require additional infrastructure, teachers and teacher training, along with coordinated efforts by states.

Patel further highlighted online and open-distance learning, multilingual education, virtual laboratories and digital platforms such as SWAYAM and SWAYAM Plus as important tools for expanding access to education.

The conclave resolutions and outcomes were presented by the officer-in-charge of the Documentation Committee. The session, chaired by V. Lovitoly Sema, Additional Secretary, Higher & Technical Education and Director, Higher Education, Government of Nagaland, concluded with a vote of thanks by Tiakaba Amer, Additional Director, Technical Education, followed by the national anthem.
