CSIR–Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CSIR-CMERI), Durgapur, today organised the AI Technocrat Training Programme under the PMVIKAS (Pradhan Mantri Virasat Ka Samvardhan) scheme, sponsored by the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs (MoMA). The residential skilling initiative was formally inaugurated by Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, Director, CSIR-CMERI, at MM Suri Hall.

Designed as a residential skilling initiative targeting minority youth, the programme aimed to train 600 candidates in high-demand technical job roles, specifically as AI Technocrats and Robotics & Automation – COBOTS Engineers. The program officially commenced on September 18, 2026, at CSIR-CMERI (Training Partner: TP-128001, Training Centre: TC-357333).

Interacting with the inaugural batch, Dr. Naresh Chandra Murmu, Director, CSIR-CMERI, highlighted the importance of acquiring proficiency in Artificial Intelligence, Robotics, and Automation. He encouraged the trainees to fully utilise the research infrastructure and expertise at CSIR-CMERI to prepare themselves for high-impact careers and entrepreneurship opportunities in alignment with the Viksit Bharat vision.

Key Highlights of the Programme

             Capacity & Target Roles: The programme imparted high-end technical training to 600 candidates in two specialised job roles: AI Technocrat and Robotics & Automation – COBOTS Engineer.

         NSQF-Aligned Curriculum: Conducted in accordance with National Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) guidelines, combining rigorous theoretical learning with extensive hands-on practical exposure guided by CSIR-CMERI scientists.

         100% Sponsorship & Benefits: Fully funded by MoMA, the programme provided each trainee with free hostel accommodation, food facilities, and a monthly stipend throughout the training duration.

         Inclusive Youth Empowerment: Targeted primarily at empowering minority youth from various districts of West Bengal to boost employability in emerging technology markets.
