Timely institutional support can help women organise themselves, build sustainable livelihoods and improve the well-being of their families. Whileas limited access to affordable finance often prevents rural women from starting income-generating activities and achieving economic independence.

Maa Lakshmi Mahila Samiti, an 11-member Self-Help Group in Purulia district, West Bengal, transformed its livelihood through greenhouse farming with financial assistance of Rs. 1 lakh under NSFDC's Mahila Samriddhi Yojana. The loan was disbursed through WBSCDC on 5 February 2025.

Before receiving the assistance, the members had no regular source of income and faced financial uncertainty. Despite their willingness to work, limited access to capital prevented them from starting a sustainable livelihood activity.

The members learned about the scheme through the district office of the West Bengal Scheduled Castes Development Corporation. They subsequently applied for financial assistance to undertake greenhouse farming on leased land. The loan provided the capital required to begin cultivation and establish a collective source of livelihood.

Through sustained effort and cooperation, the group successfully developed its greenhouse farming activity. Each member now earns approximately Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 8,000 per month. The additional income has improved the economic condition of their families and enabled them to meet household needs with greater confidence.

Today, the members of Maa Lakshmi Mahila Samiti are moving forward with greater self-confidence and financial independence. Their journey demonstrates how timely credit and institutional support can empower rural women to create sustainable livelihoods. The group has expressed its gratitude to NSFDC and WBSCDC for supporting its journey towards prosperity and self-reliance.
