The Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) successfully organized a Sensitization Programme for CCRAS Scientists at the Central Ayurveda Research Institute (CARI), Bengaluru on 16 September 2026, under the Memorandum of Understanding between BIS and the Central Council for Research in Ayurvedic Sciences (CCRAS). The programme was exclusively designed to orient CCRAS scientists towards the national standardization ecosystem and to unlock collaborative opportunities between the two premier institutions.

The event witnessed the participation of scientists, researchers, and administrators from CCRAS institutes across the country, marking a significant milestone in the shared journey of promoting quality, safety, and global recognition for Ayurveda. True to BIS's enduring slogan “Manakah Patha Pradarshaka,” the programme underscored the indispensable role of standards in harmonizing the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda with the demands of modern scientific rigour.
“This programme is a vital step towards empowering CCRAS scientists with a thorough understanding of standardization processes, enabling them to actively contribute to the formulation of quality standards for Ayurvedic science at both the national and international levels.”
Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, New Delhi
During the inaugural session, Ms. Shrishti Dixit, Scientist-E & Head (Ayush), BIS, extended a warm welcome to participants and reaffirmed BIS's commitment to advancing quality and safety in Ayurveda through robust standardization frameworks. She emphasized that standards serve as the very foundation of trust — enabling Ayurveda to earn the global recognition it deserves as a reliable and evidence-based healthcare system.
Prof. Rabinarayan Acharya, Director General, CCRAS, delivered the remarks, highlighting CCRAS's central role in shaping both national and international standards in Ayurveda. He stressed the importance of equipping scientists with a deep understanding of standardization processes so that they may serve as active contributors to standards development within their respective domains. The Vote of Thanks for the inaugural session was extended by Dr T Maheswar, AD Incharge, CARI, Bengaluru.
The technical sessions featured substantive presentations by domain experts from BIS. Ms. Neha Yadav, Sc-E/Director, SCMD, BIS, elaborated on the scope and objectives of the MoU between BIS and CCRAS and offered a live demonstration of BIS's digital initiatives, showcasing the tools available to facilitate seamless collaboration. Ms. Shrishti Dixit provided participants with a sweeping overview of India's standardization ecosystem, the standards formulation process at BIS, and the workings of its Technical Department, laying a strong conceptual foundation for the day's deliberations." Dr Raghavendra Naik, Ayush, BIS, presented a comprehensive overview of India's international standardization activities in Ayurveda and Yoga through the ISO/TC 249/SC 2 Secretariat, underlining the global stage on which Indian traditional medicine is increasingly playing a prominent role.

The afternoon session witnessed an engaging Open House and Group Discussion on a Roadmap for Implementation of the MoU, where participants exchanged innovative ideas on interdisciplinary research, capacity-building, and the integration of Ayurvedic knowledge into formal standards frameworks. The session fostered direct dialogue between CCRAS scientists and BIS officials, generating actionable insights for the road ahead.
The programme concluded with a session on Way Forward and Concluding Remarks, crystallizing the key commitments emerging from the day's deliberations — chief among them being the need for sustained collaboration between research institutions and standards bodies to build a credible and globally competitive Ayurvedic healthcare system.
