EPFO Raises Wage Ceiling from Rs. 15,000 to Rs. 25,000; Over 51 Lakh Workers to Benefit

The Regional Office of the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Berhampore, today held a press briefing on the revision of the statutory wage ceiling from Rs.15,000 to Rs.25,000 per month, effective September 17, 2026. The revision follows the Union cabinet decision and Gazette Notification S.O. 5109(E) issued by the ministry of labour and employment.
Addressing the media, Shri R.K. Sinha, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner-I, EPFO Regional Office Berhampore, said this is the first revision of the statutory wage ceiling since September 2014. He said the revised ceiling is expected to significantly increase EPFO membership.
The revised ceiling will bring more than 51 lakh additional formal sector workers in the Rs.15,000 - Rs.25,000 monthly wage range under mandatory EPFO coverage. The workers will receive social security benefits under EPF, EPS and EDLI.
With the pensionable wage ceiling increased to Rs.25,000, the maximum employer pension contribution at 8.33% will rise from Rs.1,250 to Rs.2,083 per month.
EPFO Regional Office Berhampore will set up a dedicated helpdesk to assist employers and employees. Informational webinars will also be organised to create awareness and support establishments in ensuring compliance.
