DGR- Resettlement Training Programme on “Innovations and Agribusiness Management” Inaugurated at VAMNICOM, Pune

The Directorate General Resettlement (DGR), Ministry of Defence, Government of India, in association with the Vaikunth Mehta National Institute of Cooperative Management (VAMNICOM), Pune, inaugurated the DGR’s Resettlement Training Programme on “Innovations and Agribusiness Management” at VAMNICOM, Pune.
The inaugural session was graced by Brigadier Ranjan Keron, ADG South, Directorate General Resettlement, Ministry of Defence, as the Chief Guest. Dr. Suva Kanta Mohanty, Director, VAMNICOM; Dr. Sudam Adlinge, Registrar, VAMNICOM; Dr. Amit Borkar, Assistant Professor and Course Coordinator; and Dr. Arvind Darshna, Assistant Professor and Co-Coordinator of the programme, were also present. 52 Officers from the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force participating in the programme attended the inaugural session.
Addressing the participants, Brigadier Ranjan Keron appreciated the officers for undertaking the training and encouraged them to make the best use of the knowledge, skills and insights gained through the programme. He emphasised the importance of effectively applying the learning to future professional, entrepreneurial and livelihood opportunities.
Dr. Suva Kanta Mohanty, Director, VAMNICOM, highlighted the potential of small-scale entrepreneurial activities to generate sustainable income when planned and managed effectively. Drawing upon examples from the cooperative sector, he explained how small initiatives, innovation and collective efforts can create wider economic benefits and contribute to community development.
Dr. Amit Borkar, Course Coordinator, spoke on the significance of agribusiness and value chain management, highlighting the need to identify and assess viable business opportunities. He emphasised that the programme would provide participants with practical knowledge and managerial capabilities to support their transition towards entrepreneurship, self-employment and new livelihood opportunities.
The training programme is being conducted from 28 September to 20 November 2026, with 52 participants from the Indian Army, Indian Navy and Indian Air Force. The programme has been specially designed to equip Armed Forces personnel with practical knowledge and managerial skills in agribusiness, entrepreneurship, innovation and allied agricultural activities, thereby supporting their transition to meaningful entrepreneurial and self-employment opportunities after service.
The comprehensive programme covers a wide range of areas, including agribusiness opportunities, agricultural finance, government schemes, food processing, dairy, poultry, fisheries, mushroom cultivation, floriculture, apiculture, marketing, project preparation, financial management and entrepreneurship. Through these sessions, participants will gain an understanding of emerging opportunities in agriculture and allied sectors, along with the managerial, financial and entrepreneurial skills required to plan and implement viable business ventures.
The inaugural programme also witnessed the enthusiastic participation of first-year PGDM-ABM students of VAMNICOM, who contributed to the smooth conduct of the event. Miss. Bhagirathi M and Mr. Sidharth Singh served as the anchors and coordinated the proceedings of the inaugural session with enthusiasm and professionalism.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Sudam Adlinge, Registrar, VAMNICOM, who expressed his gratitude to the Chief Guest, DGR representatives, faculty members, participating Armed Forces officers and all those associated with the successful organisation of the programme.
The initiative marks a significant step towards empowering retiring and transitioning Armed Forces personnel with knowledge, skills and entrepreneurial perspectives that can help them explore sustainable livelihood opportunities in the dynamic and growing agriculture and allied sectors.
