In a significant step towards strengthening food safety and hygiene practices among street food vendors, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), conducted the 57th food safety training session for street food vendors at Andheri, Mumbai, on September 30, 2026.

The training session was attended by around 50 street food vendors and focused on essential aspects of food safety, including personal hygiene, safe food handling practices, prevention of food contamination, cleanliness of food preparation areas, and hygienic storage and serving of food.

The training is part of the strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between FSSAI and BMC, under which more than 10,000 street food vendors across Mumbai are being covered through structured food safety training and awareness programmes.
The initiative aims to strengthen food safety practices at the street food level and promote safer and more hygienic food practices among vendors, thereby contributing to the objectives of the Eat Right India movement.

FSSAI and BMC will continue to undertake such capacity-building and awareness initiatives to enhance compliance with food safety and hygiene requirements among street food vendors across Mumbai.
