The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) organised a cleanliness drive (Shramdaan) at Transport Bhawan, New Delhi, today, as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 campaign. The initiative was undertaken under the campaign’s ‘Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath’ call for collective participation in cleanliness activities.

The Swachhata Hi Seva campaign is being observed from September 17 to October 2, 2026, with the objective of promoting voluntarism and fostering collective action towards cleanliness. The theme of this year’s campaign is ‘Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat’.

As part of the ongoing campaign, 943 Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) have been transformed as on October 1, 2026. Further, 123 public spaces have been cleaned so far under the campaign.

Secretary, MoRTH, Shri V. Umashankar led the Shramdaan along with senior officials and employees of the Ministry. Officers and staff actively participated in the cleanliness drive, including cleaning the area outside Transport Bhawan, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to maintaining clean and hygienic public and workplace spaces.

On the occasion, Shri V. Umashankar and senior functionaries felicitated the sanitation workers by presenting them with shawls in recognition of their dedicated services. The Secretary appreciated their valuable contribution towards maintaining cleanliness and hygiene at the workplace and acknowledged their important role in supporting the objectives of the Swachhata campaign.

The initiative provided an opportunity for officers and employees to come together and contribute to the broader objectives of Swachhata Hi Seva. The Ministry reiterated that cleanliness is not limited to periodic campaigns but requires sustained participation and responsible practices in day-to-day life.

Under the Swachhata Hi Seva and Special Campaign 6.0, the Ministry has identified several key areas for focused action, including removal of garbage along National Highways (NHs), particularly in urban areas; refurbishment and maintenance of toilet blocks at toll plazas and other locations along NHs; comprehensive upkeep of toll plazas, including cleaning, painting, lighting and solarisation; installation of road signages and improvement of visibility of road markings; and making National Highways pothole-free, among other cleanliness and maintenance activities.

All campaign offices, including Headquarters, Regional Offices, Programme Implementation Units (PIUs), Programme Directors and other field offices, have been sensitised to undertake concerted efforts for effective implementation of the campaigns and to ensure sustained and impactful outcomes.

The progress of the campaigns is being regularly reviewed by the Joint Secretary/Secretary with the Nodal Officers of the respective campaign offices to ensure coordinated implementation and achievement of the campaign objectives.

The Shramdaan at Transport Bhawan reinforced the message of collective responsibility, dignity of work and sustained participation in building a cleaner and more hygienic workplace and public environment.
