Income Tax Department, West Bengal & Sikkim Observes Swachhata Hi Seva 2026 at Aayakar Abasan, Kolkata

Initiative to reinforce commitment to Swachh Bharat, public health and environmental responsibility

The Office of the Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal & Sikkim, organised 'Swachhata Hi Seva 2026' today at Aayakar Abasan in Kolkata, under the theme “Swachhata Mein Sahbhag, Swachh Bharat, Viksit Bharat”, reaffirming its commitment to cleanliness, public health and environmental responsibility.

The programme was graced by Minister-in-Charge, Department of Health and Family Welfare, Givernment of West Bengal, Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee, as the Chief Guest. The Principal Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, West Bengal & Sikkim, IRS, Smt. Surabhi Varma Garg, presided over the event. The occasion was also attended by Madam Esther Lal Ruatkimi, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-5, Kolkata; Smt. Paramita Mandal Biswas, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-3, Kolkata; Shri Sreenivas T. Bidari,  Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-4, Kolkata; and Shri Shivraj B. Morey, Chief Commissioner of Income Tax-6, Kolkata, along with other senior officers, officials and Safai Mitras.

Addressing the gathering, Dr. Sharadwat Mukherjee mentioned the close interlinkages between cleanliness, sanitation and public health and highlighted the importance of collective participation in building a cleaner and healthier society. Smt. Surabhi Varma Garg underscored the necessity to make Swachhata a sustained practice in everyday life and an integral part of institutional culture.

The Swachhata Pledge was administered by the Chief Guest, with participants reaffirming their collective commitment to cleanliness and responsible civic practices.

The special highlight of the programme was the felicitation of Safai Mitras, recognising their dedicated contribution towards maintaining clean and hygienic surroundings.

The programme was followed by a plantation drive under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, the inauguration of a health camp, and a 'Shramdaan' activity. Officers, officials, Safai Mitras and other participants joined these initiatives, reinforcing the spirit of collective action towards cleanliness and environmental responsibility.
