Centre of Excellence on Green Hydrogen inaugurated at Jadavpur University

The Centre of Excellence on Green Hydrogen (CoE GH2) was inaugurated today at Jadavpur University, Kolkata as a part of the National Green Hydrogen Mission of the Union Ministry of New & Renewable Energy. Shri Rajesh Pandey, Chairman, Damodar Valley Corporation, graced the occasion as Chief Guest of the function and inaugurated the Centre of Excellence. The distinguished dignitaries present included Professor Dr. Chiranjib Bhattacharjee, Vice Chancellor, Jadavpur University, Shri Swapnendu Kumar Panda, Member (Technical), DVC and Professor Amitava Datta, pro-Vice Chancellor, JU.
The Centre came into being as a joint initiative of DVC, Jadavpur University, Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Limited (HURL), supported and funded by the Ministry of New and Renewable Energy (MNRE) and DVC. Jadavpur University is the knowledge partner, while SAIL and HURL are industry stakeholders. Mr. Arghyajit Saha, General Manager, Environment Management Division, SAIL was present as industry partner.
Selected through a nationwide process, it is one of only four such Centres pan-India approved under the National Green Hydrogen Mission of the Ministry of New & Renewable Energy,GoI which aims to make India a global hub for the production, use and export of green hydrogen.
The Centre will focus on high-pressure compression, storage and transportation of green hydrogen, and on its applications in decarbonising the power, steel and fertiliser sectors. It is expected to deliver stable and efficient green hydrogen co-firing burner systems, efficient high-pressure compression, and cleaner steel and fertiliser production, contributing to India’s clean energy transition.
