In view of the upcoming Bye-Election to the Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly from the 35. Madurantakam (SC) Assembly Constituency, the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), has been tasked with executing rigorous checks to prevent illegal practices and monetary influences aimed at swaying electorates.

Accordingly, the Office of the Commissioner of GST & Central Excise, Chennai Outer Commissionerate, has deployed a robust monitoring network comprising multiple Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams. These teams are maintaining continuous vigil across their entire jurisdiction to stem the flow of unauthorized goods, valuables, and illicit inducements that could compromise a free, fair, and transparent electoral process.

The specialized Flying Squads and Static Surveillance Teams of the Chennai Outer GST Commissionerate are working in close coordination with various expenditure monitoring modules of the CBIC as well as other law enforcement units constituted by the Election Commission.

To ensure seamless public participation and swift response, a Centralized Control Room has been established at the Office of the Assistant Commissioner of GST & Central Excise, MM Nagar, Chennai Outer Commissionerate. This control room will remain operational 24x7 throughout the election period.
