Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), Kolkata Telephones, celebrated the 26th Foundation Day of BSNL by organising a 5 KM Run at Newtown, Kolkata, on October 1, 2026. The event was organised to promote health awareness, physical fitness and a healthy lifestyle, while fostering unity, team spirit and togetherness among BSNL employees, partners and customers.

The 5 KM Run commenced in the morning from Newtown Telephone Exchange, following the registration of participants between 5:30 AM and 6:20 AM. Employees and partners participated enthusiastically, coming together beyond their regular professional responsibilities to mark the occasion through a healthy and meaningful activity. The successful completion of the run added to the spirit of the Foundation Day celebrations and reinforced the importance of fitness, wellness and collective participation.

Highlighting BSNL Kolkata Telephones’ role in strengthening digital connectivity, the organisation serves more than 96,000 Bharat Fibre (FTTH) customers and over 15 lakh mobile customers in the Kolkata Metro Area. BSNL has also implemented indigenous 4G technology, which is operational and running smoothly, further supporting the expansion of reliable communication services.

The facility provides flexibility to choose and change OTT subscriptions without altering the existing FTTH plan. Customers receive a specified number of tokens with their plans, which can be used to subscribe to OTT platforms, with the option to purchase additional tokens for more subscriptions. BSNL currently offers 10 FTTH OTT plans featuring 27 OTT platforms, including Sony LIV, JioHotstar, ZEE5 and Hoichoi.

BSNL is also contributing to the expansion of the country’s digital infrastructure through the **BharatNet Project**, which aims to provide reliable broadband connectivity to Gram Panchayats and extend high-speed internet access to rural and underserved areas. The BharatNet Udyami (BNU) initiative further encourages the participation of local entrepreneurs in delivering broadband services to rural communities.

The Foundation Day celebrations reflected BSNL Kolkata Telephones’ continued focus on employee well-being, customer engagement, technological advancement and the expansion of digital connectivity.
