On the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti on October 2, 2026, the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEFCC) today commenced the Implementation Phase of Special Campaign 6 with an emphasis on sanitation and hygiene. The Campaign aims to institutionalize Swachhata and minimize pendency across all its subordinate offices, autonomous organisations, regional offices and other field and  outstation offices with particular focus on offices having public interface or providing public services.

The Campaign also seeks to promote sustained behavioural change inspired by Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), with a focus on conserving energy and water, saying no to single-use plastics, promoting sustainable food systems, reducing waste and e-waste, and encouraging the adoption of healthy and environmentally responsible lifestyles.

Special Campaign 6 is being undertaken in accordance with the guidelines of the Department of Administrative Reforms and Public Grievances (DARPG). This year's Campaign focuses on “Effective Collection, Segregation and Disposal of E-Waste”, along with cleanliness of campaign sites, disposal of pending matters, records management, space management, process simplification and disposal of redundant items and furniture.
