Under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0, Uttarakhand has been honored as the "Best Performing State" at the national level for achieving the highest "grounding ratio"—initiating the construction of the maximum number of houses relative to those sanctioned. The award was presented by Shri Tokhan Sahu, Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs, Government of India, at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on October 05, 2026. On behalf of the State Government, Director/Additional Secretary, Urban Development Department, Government of Uttarakhand, Shri Vinod Goswami, and Assistant Director, Urban Development Directorate, Shri Rajiv Pandey received the award.
Shri Vinod Goswami stated that the primary objective of Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 2.0 is to provide permanent (pucca) housing to eligible homeless families in urban areas. Under this scheme, Uttarakhand has received approval from the Government of India for a total of 3,979 houses, against which grounding for 1,867 houses has already been achieved. In August 2026, the Government of India approved 1,647 houses, for which funds were released to the state government in September 2026. Following the receipt of funds by the state government, funds are being disbursed to local bodies, and grounding for the remaining sanctioned houses will also be carried out.
