As part of the implementation phase of Swachhata Special Campaign 6.0, the Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO), Special State Office, Gangtok, in coordination with Press Information Bureau (PIB), Gangtok, organized a dedicated cleanliness and appreciation event today, 9th October, 2026.

The event was organized in line with the objectives of Special Campaign 6.0, which focuses on institutional cleanliness, disposal of pendency, improvement of workplace surroundings and promotion of a clean and hygienic environment.

On the occasion, Shri Kesang Namthak Tenzing, Regional Provident Fund Commissioner, EPFO, Gangtok, felicitated Smt. Kamala Bhujel, Safai Karamchari, Gangtok Municipal Corporation (GMC), in recognition of her dedicated and sustained efforts in maintaining cleanliness of the road leading to EPFO Office at Arithang Road. Her daily service and commitment to keeping the surroundings clean were appreciated. PIB, Gangtok also felicitated Smt. Bhujel for her dedication towards Swachhata.

The cleanliness drive, which commenced from the EPFO Office premises at Arithang, culminated with cleaning of the stretch leading to PIB, Gangtok Office located at Akashvani Quarter Complex, Gangtok, covering almost 300 metres.

Addressing the participants, Shri Kesang Namthak Tenzing, said that cleanliness should not be restricted to special campaigns alone but should become an integral part of our daily life, work culture and civic responsibility. He noted that a clean workplace enhances productivity, promotes well-being and reflects the values of discipline and respect for our surroundings.

Shri Tenzing further stated that EPFO is committed to ensuring a clean, hygienic and citizen-friendly office environment for its stakeholders, including subscribers, pensioners and employers. He added that felicitation of Safai Karamcharis is a small gesture to acknowledge their big contribution in sustaining the Swachhata movement at the grassroots level. Their dedicated service, often carried out without recognition, forms the backbone of a clean city.

Shri Satendra Kumar, Information Assistant, PIB, Gangtok, speaking on the occasion, gave a brief background of the Swachhata Hi Seva and Special Campaign initiatives of the Government of India and highlighted that Special Campaign 6.0 is being observed across the country from 2nd to 31st October, 2026 to institutionalize cleanliness and reduce pendency. He appreciated the efforts of EPFO Gangtok in taking Swachhata beyond office premises and reaching out to the community. He also conveyed appreciation to Smt. Bhujel on behalf of PIB, Gangtok.

It may be noted that EPFO Gangtok and PIB Gangtok have been closely coordinating in observance of Swachhata campaigns. During Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 5.0, both offices had jointly organized cleanliness drives reflecting a shared commitment towards the vision of a Swachh and Swasth Bharat. The continued collaboration during Special Campaign 6.0 further strengthens inter-office coordination and reinforces the spirit of whole-of-government approach envisaged under the campaign.
