Hidayatullah National Law University (HNLU), Raipur, has secured a significant international achievement in sports law and arbitration, with a four-member student team winning the 4th Sports Arbitration Moot Award Competition 2026–27. The winning team comprises Mahi Agrawal, Siya Gupta, Ambati Nupur Rao and Atharv Sharma. In recognition of their performance, the team has been awarded a prize of EUR 1,000.

The Sports Arbitration Moot Award Competition is an extension of the Sports Arbitration Moot, an international academic initiative that examines contemporary legal issues in sports arbitration. The 2026 edition of the moot was held in Madrid, Spain, in May 2026, with 76 teams representing universities from across the world. The competition provided students with an opportunity to analyse complex legal disputes involving sports regulations and arbitration in a simulated professional setting.

This year's moot proposition centred on match-fixing in a football match, raising critical questions concerning the regulation and integrity of sporting competitions. Participants were required to present arguments before a simulated Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), examining the interplay between sports regulations, arbitration principles, disciplinary proceedings and the protection of fair competition.

The HNLU team demonstrated strong legal research, analytical reasoning, written submissions and oral advocacy throughout the competition. Its performance reflected a sound understanding of sports arbitration and the ability to address complex factual and legal issues in accordance with international standards of legal advocacy.

Congratulating the team, HNLU Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr.) V. C. Vivekanandan said the achievement further strengthened the university's growing record of excellence in national and international moot court competitions. He noted that the accomplishment reflected the university's continued emphasis on experiential legal education, the development of advocacy skills and emerging areas of legal practice.

Hidayatullah National Law University congratulated Mahi Agrawal, Siya Gupta, Ambati Nupur Rao and Atharv Sharma on their achievement and wished them continued success in their academic and professional careers.
