Union Minister for Communications and Development of North Eastern Region Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia held a media interaction on the 10th edition of India Mobile Congress (IMC) 2026 highlighting India’s transformation from expanding digital connectivity to developing indigenous technologies and strengthening its position in the global telecommunications ecosystem. The Union Minister emphasised that the next phase of India’s telecom journey would focus on designing, developing and manufacturing technologies in India for domestic and international markets, with closer collaboration between the Government and industry.
Reflecting on the journey of the past decade, the Union Minister said that while the last decade was marked by the expansion of digital connectivity, the next decade must focus on building indigenous technological capabilities, accelerating the deployment of innovations and expanding the global reach of Indian products.

Organised jointly by the Department of Telecommunications (DoT), Ministry of Communications, and the Cellular Operators Association of India (COAI), IMC 2026 is being held at Yashobhoomi, New Delhi under the theme “Scale Without Boundaries”. Highlighting the journey of IMC, Shri Scindia said, “IMC has become Asia’s number one digital and telecom conference at this juncture, and we hope to take it onto a global stage in the days to come.”
IMC 2026: A Global Platform for Technology and Innovation
The scale of the tenth edition is reflected in its 60,000-square-metre exhibition area, participation from over 100 countries, more than 2,000 technology use cases, over 400 startups and more than 900 thought leaders, alongside industry partners, exhibitors, investors, incubators and accelerators. Emphasising that the value of IMC extends beyond participation numbers, Union Minister Shri Scindia noted that its real impact lies in translating ideas into products, partnerships into investments and technological advances into solutions that improve citizens’ lives.
The showcased use cases demonstrate how emerging technologies are moving beyond laboratories and pilot projects into enterprises, public services and everyday applications. The platform also provides opportunities for collaboration among government, industry, academia and the startup ecosystem to accelerate the development, commercialisation and deployment of innovative solutions.

From Connectivity to Indigenous Technology Capability
Union Minister Shri Scindia said that India’s telecom transformation has advanced across three key areas: expanding connectivity, developing indigenous technological capabilities and strengthening domestic manufacturing capacity. The country has expanded broadband infrastructure, undertaken a rapid nationwide 5G rollout, developed an indigenous end-to-end 4G technology stack and strengthened its telecom and electronics manufacturing ecosystem.
Highlighting the country’s evolving ambition, the Union Minister underscored the objective of moving beyond “Made in India” towards “Designed, Developed and Made in India”, while taking Indian technologies and solutions to international markets. This transition reflects India’s growing capacity to design, develop, manufacture and deploy the technologies that underpin digital connectivity, strengthening its position as a technology creator and a trusted global partner.
Union Minister Shri Scindia made special mention of Samriddh Gram, a global award winning initiative of DoT, and demonstrated how digital connectivity and indigenous innovations can support inclusive growth and improve public service delivery. The Samriddhi Kendras under the initiative showcase the potential of integrated digital infrastructure to transform rural communities by connecting government services, healthcare, education, agriculture and local enterprises.
The Union Minister of Communications also highlighted the importance of establishing a seamless pathway from research and intellectual property development to product creation, commercial deployment and access to global markets. Initiatives and institutions such as ASPIRE and C-DOT, along with universities, startups and industry partners, have an important role in strengthening this innovation ecosystem.

The Union Minister concluded the interaction by thanking participating countries, industry partners, exhibitors, startups, innovators, researchers, investors and organisers for contributing to the tenth edition of India Mobile Congress and strengthening its position as a global platform for telecommunications and digital technology collaboration.
