The Central Staff Training and Research Institute (CSTARI), Kolkata, under the Directorate General of Training (DGT), Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (MSDE), has signed yesterday a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur to strengthen the quality, relevance and effectiveness of vocational education and training in India.

The MoU was signed by Professor Suman Chakraborty, Director, IIT Kharagpur and Shri Rajnish Kumar Jha, Director, CSTARI, marking an important step towards fostering institutional collaboration by integrating academic excellence, research and technological innovation with expertise in vocational training.

The partnership aims to promote research-driven and technology-enabled approaches to enhance trainer effectiveness, improve teaching–learning practices and strengthen training outcomes. Key areas of collaboration include pedagogy and instructional design, technology-enabled learning, digital content and curriculum development, computer-based assessment, evaluation and certification systems, faculty development, and Training of Trainers (ToT).

The collaboration will also focus on research and innovation in vocational education and skill development, industry–institute partnerships for curriculum validation, joint projects, knowledge exchange, workshops and capacity-building initiatives. The institutions may undertake additional mutually agreed activities to advance their shared objectives.

The MoU provides a framework for leveraging IIT Kharagpur’s academic and research capabilities alongside CSTARI’s expertise in training methodology, curriculum development and capacity building. The partnership is expected to contribute to improved instructional practices, enhanced trainer competencies and the continuous improvement of vocational education and training.
