Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Shri Amit Shah today attended the inauguration and foundation-stone laying ceremony of projects worth ₹8,941 crore related to the rejuvenation of the Yamuna in Delhi. On this occasion, Lieutenant Governor of Delhi Shri Taranjit Singh Sandhu and Chief Minister Smt. Rekha Gupta, along with several other dignitaries, were present.

In his address, Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah said that today the inauguration and foundation-stone laying of important projects worth nearly ₹9,000 crore for the purification of the Yamuna took place here. Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, as soon as our party’s government was formed in Delhi, called a major meeting and placed his vision of purifying the Yamuna before the Delhi Government and the Ministry of Home Affairs. In such a short time, we have achieved more than 40 percent success.
Shri Amit Shah said that for the past 30 years, previous governments allowed Delhi’s sewage water to be discharged into the Yamuna and dumped 2,000 tonnes of cow dung from dairies into the Yamuna every day. At one time, governments of the main opposition party’s allies were in power in Uttar Pradesh and Haryana, and industrial waste water from Haryana as well as dirty water from Uttar Pradesh also flowed into the Yamuna. He said that today our party’s governments are in power at the Centre and in Delhi, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Our governments in these four states have jointly prepared time-bound roadmaps for Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Delhi, through which we will make the Yamuna clean by 2029. Shri Shah said that we want to build a Delhi where homes are beautiful, water is pure, streets are clean, there are no mountains of garbage, and the Yamuna, once cleansed, can bestow its blessings on the people from here all the way to the Sangam. He said that Prime Minister Modi has taken up this work as an unwavering resolve, and today a very large part of that resolve is being fulfilled.
Union Home Minister said that 10 projects were inaugurated and 33 projects were initiated here today. He said that through the schemes started at a total cost of ₹8,941 crore, several lakh litres of water will be purified and flow into the Yamuna. Projects related to several areas of Delhi were inaugurated here today, and the foundation stones were also laid for the upgradation of existing STPs and the installation of new STPs. A decentralised STP pumping station has also been set up here today, and work has begun to connect sewer lines to households. We are taking forward sewer rehabilitation, tapping and drainage work. The Home Minister expressed confidence that we will purify the Yamuna before May 2029.

Shri Amit Shah said that some political parties only indulge in the politics of excuses. Previous governments in Delhi used to make excuses that they did not get any help. He said that we have answers to every claim of theirs, but those answers will be given to them after their government in Punjab goes. The previous government in Delhi did nothing except seize power in the name of protests and indulge in corruption. They played politics in the name of garbage mountains, but our government has worked to bring those garbage mountains down. In two years, gardens will come up in place of these garbage mountains.
Union Home Minister said that the Rekha Gupta government in Delhi, with the help of the Modi government at the Centre, has cleared 2.17 crore metric tonnes of garbage and freed 100 acres of land from waste. The garbage mountains at Okhla and Bhalswa have been reduced by 30 to 40 metres, the one at Ghazipur has come down by 10 to 15 metres. The previous government did no work for the purification of the Yamuna. Our government has today carried out world-class works such as Asita East, Bansera and Vasudev Ghat at Sarai Kale Khan and ITO. We have prepared a three-year action plan to provide sewerage connections to every household in Delhi so that dirty water can be drained out, and we will also ensure that pure drinking water reaches every home.
Shri Amit Shah said that a different game is currently being played in Delhi because our governments are continuously being elected in states across the country. He said that this is causing stomachache to the opponents, which is why they are making the excuse of vote theft. Opposition parties claim that our party does not come to power through popular votes, but by stealing votes. The entire country understands — and has understood — the opposition parties and their parties. Shri Shah said that by creating a hue and cry over vote theft, the opposition parties want to save the votes of infiltrators.
Union Home Minister said that opposition parties make excuses sometimes about EVMs and sometimes about vote theft. The Home Minister said that when they claim their party’s government will remain for 30 years, the opposition parties tell the people that vote theft is taking place, otherwise how would Amit Shah have known. Shri Shah said that he was born here, lives here, and remains among the people of the country, and he does not have to go abroad every six months. He said that given the kind of negative politics the opposition is doing, the opposition’s government will never be formed for the next 30 years.
Shri Amit Shah said that recently in Kerala, elections were held with the same voter list, Election Commission and EVMs, and after winning the election the opposition took the oath and is now praising the Election Commission. When the opposition won in Telangana, the Election Commission was also good and the voter list was good too. When they won in Himachal, the Election Commission and voter list were good then as well. In Tamil Nadu, when the party they supported won the election, the Election Commission and voter list were good then too. Shri Shah said that wherever the opposition loses the election, the Election Commission is not proper there. If the courts give a judgment in favour of the opposition, the courts are good, but if they give a judgment against the opposition, the courts are not proper. Shri Shah said that these double standards of the opposition will not work, and the people have now understood all of this.

Union Home Minister said that the opposition cannot negate the people’s mandate by gathering cadres from some neighbouring states and staging protests in Delhi. He said that the people of the country are both watching and understanding the opposition. He said that from our party’s booth workers to Prime Minister Modi ji, our crores of workers live among the people, know their sorrows, and work day and night to solve their problems. If we look at the example of the Yamuna, the main opposition party and other parties’ previous governments ruled Delhi for 30 years, but they did nothing for the Yamuna. Shri Shah said that now the good fortune of cleaning the entire Yamuna, from Yamunotri to the Sangam, is going to come to our government under the leadership of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. The Home Minister said that the opposition cannot negate the country’s mandate through such political tactics and mobocracy. He said that if one wants to win elections, one should go among the people to understand their sufferings and pains; nothing is achieved through dharnas and protests. Wherever you have been elected, bring schemes and do work to remove the people’s sorrows, pains, sufferings and disorder; otherwise even the remaining existence will come to an end.
Shri Amit Shah said that the way the drug trade has flourished in Punjab under the leadership of the Punjab government, the people of Punjab have now decided that this time our party’s government will come to power there. He said that the politics of excuses does not last long; for success, results have to be delivered. He said that the previous Chief Minister of Delhi lost in Delhi and has now set up camp in Punjab, not even allowing the Chief Minister there to work. He said that we will put an end to the drug trade in Punjab by 2029.
