Nagpur, 23 October 2026

The South Central Zone Cultural Centre (SCZCC), Nagpur, under the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, will organise a five-day workshop on Kasuti embroidery from October 26 to 30, 2026, at its premises in Nagpur. The workshop aims to familiarise participants with Karnataka’s traditional embroidery art and encourage the preservation of this distinctive craft.

The training will be conducted by Smt. Usha J. Pawar, a National Award-winning artisan who received the award for Kasuti embroidery in 2016. With 35 years of experience in the field, she has trained participants through workshops at various reputed institutions and has also served as an adviser to Anchor Threads.

Kasuti is a centuries-old embroidery tradition of Karnataka, known for its intricate stitches and motifs inspired by temple architecture, rangoli and folk life. During the workshop, participants will learn the traditional stitches—Gavanti, Muragi, Negi and Menthe—and gain practical experience in applying the art to textiles and utility products. The initiative seeks to connect a wider audience, particularly the younger generation, with this rich craft tradition.

The workshop will be held in two daily sessions, from 11 am to 1 pm and 3 pm to 5 pm.  SCZCC Director Smt. Aastha Karlekar has invited art enthusiasts, students and others interested in handicrafts to participate and explore this traditional art form.
