Goa, 23 October 2026

The ICAR-Central Coastal Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-CCARI), Goa, conducted awareness programmes on natural and organic farming at Divar village and its institute premises on October 23 as part of the Khet Bachao Programme, focusing on sustainable agriculture, soil health and reducing dependence on chemical inputs.

The programme at Divar village sensitised farmers to the principles and practices of natural and organic farming, with discussions highlighting the use of locally available resources, organic manures, biological inputs and eco-friendly crop management practices to improve soil fertility and conserve natural resources.

A second programme was organised at ICAR-CCARI for students from Goa University and farmers from Bali village in South Goa. Participants were informed about the role of natural and organic farming in reducing cultivation costs, maintaining soil health, conserving biodiversity and promoting sustainable food production.

The sessions also highlighted practical approaches to adopting these farming systems under Goa's agro-climatic conditions, with an emphasis on environmentally sustainable agricultural practices and the long-term viability of farming.

The programmes were coordinated by Dr Paramesha V, senior scientist (Agronomy), and Shashi Vishwakarma, technical officer, Natural Resource Management Section, ICAR-CCARI, Goa.
