Nadda reviewed the progress of Atal Bihari Vajpayee Institute of Medical Sciences (ABVIMS) and Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (Dr. RML Hospital), New Delhi, focusing on patient care, specialised services, service delivery and infrastructure development. During the visit, he reviewed the hospital’s achievements and upcoming projects.

Through a presentation shared during the review meeting, the Minister was briefed on the hospital’s clinical services, medical education, research activities and quality improvement initiatives. The presentation highlighted the hospital’s growing patient load, with 19.4 lakh outpatient visits, over 82,500 inpatient admissions and more than 96,600 surgeries and procedures recorded in 2025. The hospital currently has 30 clinical and patient-care departments and eight pre-clinical and para-clinical departments.

The hospital’s achievement of full National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) accreditation in 2025 was highlighted during the presentation. Dr. RML Hospital became the first Central Government multi-specialty hospital to achieve this distinction. Quality improvement measures at the hospital include strengthening registration and triage processes, clinical and prescription audits, incident reporting, adverse drug reaction reporting and patient feedback mechanisms.

Prioritising better access to services, the hospital has also expanded the number of Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY) kiosks from one to three. The number of PM-JAY pre-authorisation requests rose from 549 in 2022 to 1,516 in 2025.

The presentation also featured the institute’s academic and research contributions, including over 2,200 research publications. Its roadmap for Viksit Bharat 2047 envisages digital, patient-centric care, stronger specialised services, expanded community outreach through satellite clinics and AI-enabled monitoring, and environmentally sustainable healthcare infrastructure.

Addressing the review meeting, Shri J.P. Nadda emphasised the importance of drawing on the expertise and best practices of leading institutions when planning major healthcare infrastructure projects. He also called for stronger implementation of the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) at Dr. RML Hospital, including ABDM compliance and wider adoption of e-prescriptions and other digital health services to improve patient care and service delivery.

The Minister also stressed the need to prioritise the mental well-being of students and faculty, highlighting the impact of stress on academic and professional life. He called for supportive interpersonal relationships, open communication and sustained mental health support. RML Hospital regularly conducts mental health screenings for students and health check-ups for faculty members. Furthermore, the Minister encouraged the implementation of Project SARATHI at the institution and deemed it as an important step.

The Minister also reviewed the activities undertaken by Dr. RML Hospital under Special Campaign 6, emphasising the importance of institutionalising Swachhata, minimising pendency, ensuring efficient record management and maintaining a clean, hygienic and patient-friendly healthcare environment.
