A significant milestone in the expansion of rail connectivity in the Vindhya region of Madhya Pradesh is set to be achieved on 24 October 2026. Hon’ble Union Minister for Railways Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and Hon’ble Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Dr. Mohan Yadav will inaugurate the Satna–Devendra Nagar (53 km) and Rewa–Churhat (65 km) rail sections, covering a total of 118 kilometres of railway line. The new Devendra Nagar–Churhat train service will also be flagged off on the occasion.

The connection of Sidhi district to the rail network for the first time since Independence is a historic achievement for the Vindhya region. It will give a boost to passenger movement and freight transportation while creating new opportunities for industrial activities, trade and employment. A record budget allocation of ₹15,188 crore has been made for railway development in Madhya Pradesh in the financial year 2026–27, while railway projects worth approximately ₹1,18,379 crore are currently in progress in the state.

The Lalitpur–Singrauli New Rail Line Project is of particular importance to the Vindhya region. The project will expand the rail network and strengthen connectivity to areas such as Panna, Satna, Rewa, Sidhi and Singrauli. Upon completion, it will help connect mineral-rich regions with major industrial and transportation hubs across the country.

The programme at Churhat Railway Station will be attended by Shri Rajendra Shukla, Deputy Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh; Shri Janardan Mishra, Member of Parliament from Rewa; Shri Rajesh Mishra, Member of Parliament from Sidhi; and other public representatives and dignitaries.

The programme at Nagod Railway Station will be attended by Smt. Pratima Bagri, Minister of State in the Government of Madhya Pradesh; Shri Ganesh Singh, Member of Parliament from Satna; Shri Vishnu Datt Sharma, Member of Parliament from Khajuraho; Shri Nagendra Singh, MLA from Nagod; and other public representatives and dignitaries.

Satna–Devendra Nagar Rail Section

Developed under the Lalitpur–Singrauli New Rail Line Project, this rail section will strengthen connectivity to Satna, Nagod, Devendra Nagar and surrounding areas. Improved rail connectivity will make transportation easier and promote the development of limestone-based industries and cement plants. It will also support local trade, industrial activities, education and employment opportunities.

Rewa–Churhat Rail Section

This 65-kilometre-long rail section will further strengthen rail connectivity between the Rewa and Sidhi regions. Several important engineering works, including railway bridges and tunnels, have been undertaken across the hilly terrain along this route. These include a 3.33-kilometre-long tunnel.

With the development of this rail section, Sidhi district has been connected to the rail network for the first time. Given the availability of limestone and other minerals in the region, the route is also expected to be useful for transporting cement, clinker and other freight in the future.

New Train Service to Benefit Passengers

The introduction of the Devendra Nagar–Churhat train service will provide an additional travel option for local passengers, students, employees and traders. It will improve connectivity between surrounding areas and support activities related to education, trade and employment.

Tourism to Receive a Boost

The development of the Satna–Devendra Nagar and Rewa–Churhat rail sections is expected to give fresh impetus to tourism across the Vindhya region. The area is home to several prominent tourist attractions, including the White Tiger Safari at Mukundpur.

Improved rail connectivity will make it more convenient for tourists to access the region’s religious, historical and natural attractions. This will boost tourism, local trade, hotels and transport services while creating new employment opportunities in the region.

The development of these rail sections will facilitate the expansion of industrial activities, the establishment of new industries and cement plants, and the creation of local employment opportunities across the Vindhya region. Better rail connectivity will ease freight transportation, encourage trade and help expand employment opportunities for local youth. Thus, the expansion of the rail network will provide fresh impetus to regional economic development and public welfare.
