The event commenced with employees and officials from various Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs) assembling at the entrance of the historic Kanteerava Stadium in Bengaluru. The walkathon witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 500 employees and officials representing various organisations, including BEML, HAL, BEL, ITI Limited, BMRCL, Canara Bank and other institutions. Chief Vigilance Officers (CVOs), Directors and senior officers from the participating organisations also took part in the event.
The walkathon was jointly flagged off by Dr. Sajid Farid Shapoo, IPS and CVOs, Directors of other organizations by waving chequered flags, marking the commencement of the awareness march. Participants walked around the stadium and along the adjoining prominent routes, carrying banners and placards and raising slogans such as “I Am Against Corruption – Are You?” and “Probity for Prosperity”. The initiative brought together public sector organisations in a collective effort to promote integrity, transparency and accountability in public life, which are the core principles of Vigilance Awareness Week.
A key highlight of this year’s walkathon was its focus on the importance of complaints. In line with the outreach objectives of the week, pamphlets titled “Why Complaints Matter and Two Safe Ways to Complain – Complaint to the CVO and Complaint under PIDPI with Identity Protection” were distributed to members of the public along the route. Volunteers and officers interacted with morning walkers, youth and other citizens, creating awareness that a complaint is not merely a means of raising a grievance but also a tool for systemic improvement.

The walkathon reinforced the message that vigilance is a shared responsibility, requiring the active participation of institutions, employees and citizens alike. At the conclusion of the event, Dr. Sajid Farid Shapoo, IPS, CVO of BEML addressed the gathering. In his address, he emphasised that Vigilance Awareness Week is not merely a ritualistic observance but an opportunity to introspect and reaffirm our commitment to the highest standards of integrity. He highlighted that submitting a genuine complaint supported by specific facts requires courage and constitutes an act of national service. He further reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to providing a safe and secure mechanism for complainants under the Public Interest Disclosure and Protection of Informers (PIDPI) framework.
The initiative highlighted the importance of translating the principles of ethical governance into everyday practice. By fostering inter-organisational collaboration and public engagement, the walkathon sought to encourage individuals to uphold integrity in both their professional responsibilities and personal lives, thereby contributing to the vision of a corruption-free and developed nation – Viksit Bharat @ 2047.

The Vigilance Study Circle, Bengaluru, expressed its sincere gratitude to all participating PSUs, Bengaluru City Police personnel, the authorities of Kanteerava Stadium and members of the general public for making the event a success. The walkathon was conducted under the guidance of the CVO, BEML, and coordinated by the Vigilance Department of BEML Limited.
