Bhilai Steel Plant on Monday inaugurated Vigilance Awareness Week 2026 at its Human Resource–Learning and Development Department, underscoring the importance of integrity, transparency and accountability in organisational functioning. The Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) is observing the week from October 26 to November 1 under the theme “Integrity Leads to Prosperity.”

Chief Guest Shri A. K. Chakraborty, Executive Director (Materials Management), inaugurated the programme by offering floral tributes to Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel and lighting the ceremonial lamp. Addressing the gathering, he said that achieving the vision of a developed nation requires collective action against corruption alongside economic, social and political progress. He stressed that transparency in procurement, fairness in tendering and strict adherence to prescribed rules and procedures are essential to ensuring integrity in public and organisational affairs.

Shri Chakraborty highlighted the role of digital platforms and the Government e-Marketplace (GeM) in making procurement processes more transparent. These mechanisms help provide equal opportunities to all eligible participants and reduce the scope for irregularities, he said. Describing corruption as a major impediment to national progress, he urged officers and employees to discharge their responsibilities with honesty, accountability and strong ethical values. He also called for sustained efforts to promote a transparent and impartial work culture across the organisation.

Emphasising that vigilance is a collective responsibility rather than the exclusive domain of the Vigilance Department, Shri Chakraborty called upon every member of the organisation to remain alert to corruption and uphold ethical standards in daily work. He appreciated the Bhilai Steel Plant Vigilance Department’s efforts to strengthen the culture of preventive vigilance.

Earlier, Shri Sunil Singal, Chief General Manager (Vigilance) and Additional Chief Vigilance Officer (ACVO), welcomed the dignitaries and highlighted the significance of Vigilance Awareness Week, observed in connection with the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on October 31. He said the initiative aims to raise awareness about corruption and promote transparency, accountability and integrity in organisational functioning. He emphasised that the active participation of every officer and employee is vital to building a work culture grounded in ethical values.

Students also contributed to the programme, with Kumari Rohini Kumbhkar of Class X, SSS-10, and Kumari Sanjana Saw of Class XII, Bhilai Vidyalaya, Sector-2, sharing their views on this year’s theme, “Integrity Leads to Prosperity.” The programme concluded with the administration of the integrity pledge, through which participants reaffirmed their commitment to honesty, transparency and ethical conduct in their professional responsibilities.

The programme was attended by Shri Praveen Nigam, Executive Director (Finance and Accounts); Shri Pawan Kumar, Executive Director (Human Resources); Shri Rakesh Kumar, Executive Director (Works); Shri Kamal Bhaskar, Executive Director (Mines); and Shri Arun Kumar, Executive Director (Rowghat), along with other Chief General Managers, General Managers, senior officers and employees.
