Eastern Coalfields Limited (ECL), a subsidiary of Coal India Limited under the Ministry of Coal, has surpassed its cleanliness targets under Special Campaign 6, achieving 107 per cent of its targeted site coverage and reclaiming nearly 4 lakh square feet of space, while generating revenue of Rs 2.3 crore through scrap disposal.

According to the cumulative progress report for October 2–25, ECL has successfully completed cleanliness activities at 32 sites against a target of 30, achieving 106.7 per cent of its target. The company has also cleared 3,98,505 sq. ft. of space against the identified target of 2,08,052 sq. ft., registering an impressive achievement of 191.5 per cent.

With both cleanliness parameters already exceeding their respective targets, ECL is poised to scale higher milestones as the nationwide campaign enters its final phase. The company is intensifying efforts across its operational areas and establishments to further strengthen workplace cleanliness, reclaim additional space and accelerate administrative reforms.

The campaign has also delivered substantial financial returns through systematic identification and disposal of obsolete materials. ECL has disposed of 466 metric tonnes of scrap against an identified quantity of 850 metric tonnes, generating revenue of Rs 2,30,03,038. Besides realising financial value from unused materials, the exercise has facilitated better utilisation of available infrastructure and improved workplace management.

Significant progress has also been recorded in reducing administrative pendency and streamlining records management. ECL has reviewed 1,071 physical files against a target of 1,200, achieving 89.25 per cent, while 820 obsolete physical files have been weeded out against a target of 1,000.

On the digital governance front, the company has reviewed 3,247 e-files against a target of 3,800, achieving 85.45 per cent. Additionally, 2,436 e-files have been closed against a target of 3,600, reflecting continued efforts towards rationalisation of digital records and improved administrative efficiency.

In aggregate, ECL has reviewed 4,318 physical and electronic files and completed the weeding out or closure of 3,256 files, contributing to more organised and efficient records management.

Special Campaign 6 has provided further impetus to ECL's ongoing efforts to institutionalise cleanliness, optimise resources and promote efficiency across its establishments. The campaign has brought together physical cleanliness, systematic scrap management and administrative reforms under a coordinated drive aimed at measurable and sustainable improvements.

Building on its achievements, ECL remains focused on surpassing the remaining targets during the campaign period, particularly in scrap disposal, physical file management and e-file closure.

The company’s performance under Special Campaign 6 underscores its commitment to efficient governance, responsible resource utilisation and a cleaner, more productive workplace environment.
