NMDC is extending support to the district administration in its efforts to rehabilitate flood-affected families and restore normalcy in Bastar. Severe flooding in September 2026 led to extensive waterlogging in villages located along the Indravati River, causing significant damage to many mud houses. To provide immediate relief, NMDC is distributing around 1,000 tarpaulins to affected families.

Speaking during a tarpaulin distribution programme for flood victims, Bastar MP Mr. Mahesh Kashyap appreciated NMDC's contribution and support during the crisis. He stated that the company responded promptly to the administration's appeal and played a vital role in assisting affected communities. During the floods, NMDC provided four speed boats to the district administration, which were used to rescue stranded villagers. In addition, the company supported relief efforts by arranging ration supplies and drinking water for affected families.
As part of the relief initiative, 200 tarpaulins were distributed on 28 October in Krishpal village of Bastar Janpad Panchayat by MP Mr. Mahesh Kashyap and Mr. Pramod Kumar, Executive Director and Head, NMDC Steel Plant, Nagarnar. Another 200 tarpaulins were distributed on 29 October in Bade Chakwa Gram Panchayat and Ghatganoura village. Distribution of an additional 600 tarpaulins is planned to cover the remaining affected families. The 18×24 ft high-quality tarpaulins will help provide temporary shelter to families whose houses were damaged in the floods.
On the occasion, Mr. Pramod Kumar said that the people of Bastar had displayed remarkable courage in facing the natural calamity and were now working towards rebuilding their lives. He added that NMDC considers it a matter of pride and satisfaction to contribute to the rehabilitation process and support efforts aimed at restoring normalcy in the region.
NMDC's continued assistance for relief and rehabilitation forms part of its commitment to providing immediate support to flood-affected families and helping them rebuild their lives at the earliest.
