An exhibition titled 'Atoms in the Service of the Nation', showcasing the applications of nuclear science in energy production, healthcare, research and national development, commenced at Kottayam Science City. Shri Mons Joseph,  Minister for Irrigation and Housing, Government of Kerala, inaugurated the exhibition. Smt. Bindu Surendran, President of Uzhavoor Block Panchayat, presided over the function.

The exhibition is being jointly organised by the Kerala State Science and Technology Museum (KSSTM), Kottayam Science City and the Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, under the Department of Atomic Energy, Government of India, from October 30 to November 1, 2026.

The exhibition aims to create awareness among students, teachers and the general public about India's achievements in nuclear science and technology. Through models, displays and educational exhibits, visitors can gain first-hand insights into the scientific principles and engineering technologies associated with the country's nuclear programme.

Various exhibits highlighting nuclear reactor technology, nuclear fuel systems, radiation and its applications, advanced engineering, and the role of nuclear research in national development have been arranged. These include models and components of Pressurised Heavy Water Reactors (PHWRs), the Fast Breeder Test Reactor (FBTR), the Prototype Fast Breeder Reactor (PFBR) and the KAMINI reactor. Information on different types of radiation and the applications of nuclear technology in healthcare has also been made available to visitors.

Shri Jaimon Jacob, Director, KSSTM, welcomed the gathering at the inaugural ceremony. Shri Sreekumar G. Pillai, Director, IGCAR, Kalpakkam, delivered the special address. Local public representatives and other dignitaries were also present at the function.

Notably, the exhibition commenced on the 117th birth anniversary of Dr. Homi Jehangir Bhabha, widely regarded as the architect of India's nuclear programme. The occasion serves as a reminder of the role of scientific research and indigenous technologies in the nation's progress.

The exhibition will remain open to visitors from 10 am to 5 pm every day. Entry is free.
