Kolkata Dock System (KDS) handled 10.775 MMT, against 10.303 MMT, achieving a growth of 4.58%.

Impressive Performance in Container Handling SMPA also recorded an impressive growth in container traffic, handling 5,87,399 TEUs during April–October 2026, compared to 5,43,982 TEUs in the corresponding period of the previous year, registering an overall growth of 7.98%.

Significantly, KDS registered an impressive 15.83% growth in container traffic during October 2026, handling 64,224 TEUs against 55,449 TEUs in October 2025. This performance underscores the continued momentum in containerised cargo movement through SMPA.

This has been possible due to induction of more cranes for vessel operations in the dock by both Private Berth Operators and by the port. Also, the deployment of floating crane for Container handling at Diamond Harbour anchorage has helped bring in more cargo and reduce dead freight on vessels, said Chairman, Shri Raman.

New Cargo at Haldia - Quick Lime:

For the first time, Haldia received Quick Lime.

Ship MV ASIAN HONOR arrived on 1 November 2026 from Dibba, UAE with 8,133 tonnes of Quick Lime and Hydrated Lime in bags.

Quick Lime is very important for the steel industry. It is used to clean steel, remove impurities and make slag. This new cargo will help the Port attract more industrial cargo and support industries in Eastern India.

The Chairperson further stated, this shows the Port's focus on better operations, better infrastructure and better service to customers. The Port is ready to achieve even higher targets in the coming years.
