In a concerted effort to accelerate the adoption of Artificial Intelligence in public administration, the Directorate of Information Technology (DIT), Government of Tripura, in collaboration with the National e-Governance Division (NeGD), under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, organised a Sensitization and Capacity Building Workshop on “AI for Good Governance: Driving Transparency, Efficiency & Impact” at Pragna Bhawan, Agartala, on 16 May 2025.
The workshop, conducted as a key component of NeGD’s Capacity Building initiative, aimed to enhance the understanding and adoption of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in governance among senior officials of the Government of Tripura. The event witnessed participation from over 150 officers across various departments, reflecting the state’s collective commitment to digital transformation and AI-led innovation in public administration.
Delivering the welcome address, Shri Kiran Gitte, IAS, Secretary, Information Technology, Government of Tripura, underscored the pivotal role of Artificial Intelligence in revolutionising governance paradigms. He reiterated AI’s growing relevance in enabling data-driven policymaking, augmenting service delivery mechanisms, and optimising administrative efficiency. He further emphasised the State Government’s unwavering focus on cultivating an innovation-centric governance framework that is citizen-focused and future-ready.
In his special address, Shri Jitendra Kumar Sinha, IAS, Chief Secretary, Government of Tripura, spotlighted the state’s notable digital governance initiatives, including eOffice, eCabinet, and the Beneficiary Management System. He articulated the strategic imperative of mainstreaming emerging technologies like AI into governance structures to foster transparency, accountability, and enhanced service quality. He also highlighted the importance of institutionalising capacity building and advocating for the ethical, inclusive, and responsible deployment of AI across public sector systems.
The workshop featured four high-impact technical sessions delivered by domain experts from NeGD and IndiaAI, encompassing the following themes:
a. Foundations and Risk Mitigation in AI/ML
b. AI Adoption for Enhanced Governance
c. AI Tools for Smarter Public Administration
d. Building Robust AI Infrastructure
The formal Vote of Thanks was delivered by Shri Jeya Ragul Geshan B., IFS, Director, IT, Government of Tripura, who emphasised the significance of the workshop in shaping the digital future of the state.
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Tripura’s digital governance journey and affirms the government’s resolve to integrate AI-driven approaches for public service transformation. The workshop forms part of MeitY’s broader IndiaAI Mission. The Capacity Building (CB) scheme of NeGD is designed to empower state governments with domain expertise, practical exposure, and best practices in AI governance. Aligned with this national vision, the program is poised to catalyse the development of a resilient, inclusive, and ethically sound AI ecosystem tailored to Tripura’s governance aspirations.
