Posted On: 26 JUL 2025 8:34PM by PIB Ahmedabad

CSIR-Central Salt & Marine Chemicals Research Institute (CSMCRI), Bhavnagar, celebrated a successful conclusion to the “One Day as a Scientist” program under the nationwide CSIR-JIGYASA initiative, held from July 21 to 25, 2025.

Designed to nurture scientific curiosity and foster experiential learning, the program offered a unique opportunity for school students to immerse themselves in the world of science. Participants engaged with scientists, explored advanced research facilities, and conducted real-time experiments in the domains of marine chemistry, biotechnology, and sustainable technologies.

This program’s initiative was inspired by Hon'ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi's vision, as articulated in his 119th Mann Ki Baat address, where he stressed the need to bring students closer to science and scientific institutions. Dr. Kanti Bhooshan Pandey, a principal scientist of CSIR-CSMCRI, informed that the weeklong engagement provided an enriching platform for school students to step into the shoes of real scientists, explore cutting-edge laboratories, and dive into hands-on research experiences. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 450 students from different schools across the state (Bhavnagar, Okha, Vapi, Bhuj, Rajkot, Silvassa, Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Amreli, Surat, Valsad and Dungarpur (Rajasthan). Dr. Kannan Srinivasan, Director, CSIR-CSMCRI, motivated the students to make the most of this opportunity. He spoke passionately about the critical role of science and innovation in national development and encouraged students to pursue scientific research with dedication and curiosity. Dr. Vinay K. Nandicoori, Director, CSIR-CCMB, Hyderabad graced the inauguration of the programme and Col. Vaibhav Dixit, Commanding Officer, Gujarat Girls Bn NCC, Bhavnagar was the guest at the closing ceremony.

Through curated sessions, interactive demonstrations, and mentorship by leading scientists from CSMCRI, students gained first-hand exposure to diverse areas such as marine biotechnology, salt chemistry, and environmental science. Dr. D.R. Chaudhary, the Coordinator said that this initiative reaffirms CSIR-JIGYASA’s commitment to building bridges between scientific institutions and young learners, making science more accessible, engaging, and inspiring. CSMCRI applauds the enthusiastic participation of students and teachers, whose energy transformed the labs into hubs of discovery. The institute remains dedicated to science outreach and nurturing future innovators.
