AIMS & OBJECTIVES OF YAMUNA MANTHAN-2025 CONFERENCE AT DELHI

Posted On: 04 AUG 2025 5:37PM by PIB Delhi

The Government is aware of the pollution levels in the Yamuna River. There are 33 water quality monitoring stations on the river Yamuna across five States, namely Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh. Out of these, 13 water quality monitoring stations meet the bathing standards.

The main reasons for pollution in river Yamuna in Delhi are:

  1. Discharge of untreated/ partially treated sewage into river Yamuna. As informed by the Delhi Pollution Control Committee (DPCC), Gap in treatment in June 2025 is 645.55 MLD;
  2. Absence of Common Effluent Treatment Plants (CETPs) in some approved industrial areas;
  3. Delay in completion of new projects and rehabilitation and/or upgradation of sewage treatment projects.

National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) is supplementing the efforts of the States for checking the rising level of pollution of river Yamuna by providing financial assistance to States of Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. The various projects aimed at rejuvenation of river Yamuna are in different stages of planning/construction/ completion and close monitoring is being done at multiple levels.

Under the Namami Gange Programme, for rejuvenation of river Yamuna, NMCG has sanctioned, a total of 35 projects at an estimated cost of ₹6,534 crore for the creation of 2,243 MLD STP capacity, out of which 21 have been completed. The details of projects sanctioned under the Namami Gange Programme for the rejuvenation of the river Yamuna is enclosed at below.

MAS Council for Water and River (MCWR) is a private organisation. The information on point (b) to (d) of the parliament question are not kept and available with the Government.

This information was provided by THE MINISTER OF STATE FOR JAL SHAKTI SHRI RAJ BHUSHAN CHOUDHARY in a written reply to a question in Rajya Sabha today.
