NHRC Special Monitor Prof. Kanhaiya Tripathi Visits IIM Bodh Gaya and AIIMS Patna

Prof. Kanhaiya Tripathi, Special Monitor for Human Rights Advocacy (Human Rights Education & Gender Equality), National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), visited the Indian Institute of Management Bodh Gaya on August 21 to review initiatives related to human rights awareness, gender equality and inclusive campus governance in higher education.

During his official visit, Prof. Tripathi conducted an inspection of the institute’s state-of-the-art infrastructure, covering residential hostels, academic complexes, sports amenities, and the central library.
Prof. Tripathi commended the leadership of Prof. Vinita S. Sahay, Director, IIM Bodh Gaya, for fostering a diverse, inclusive and vibrant campus environment.
He noted the institute’s initiatives in these areas, including the Centre of Inclusion, Centre for Social Impact and Centre for Mindfulness, and emphasised the need for further strengthening structured frameworks for human rights education and awareness.
He also visited AIIMS Patna on Saturday, where he reviewed various aspects related to human rights practices, patient welfare, grievance redressal and institutional sensitisation.

During the interaction, Prof. Tripathi emphasised the need for a humane, sensitive and patient-centric approach towards addressing patient grievances, with due regard to the dignity, empathy and respect of patients and their attendants.
The discussions also focused on strengthening human rights literacy within the institution and developing a structured approach to promote awareness of human rights among healthcare professionals, students and staff. The importance of integrating a gender-equality perspective into institutional policies and practices was also emphasised.
