Senior officers of the Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, undertook a two-day Area Officer visit to Manipur from 8 to 10 September 2026 to monitor the implementation and progress of various ongoing rural development schemes in Bishnupur and Churachandpur districts.

The visit was led by the Central Government’s State Nodal Area Officer for MoRD schemes in Manipur, Shri Altaf Hussain Haji, Deputy Director General, MoRD, along with Shri Rajesh Kumar, Deputy Director, MoRD New Delhi .

During the visit, the officers interacted with Self-Help Groups (SHGs), beneficiaries and various stakeholders associated with different rural development schemes. They reviewed the implementation status of the schemes and discussed ways to further improve their outreach and ensure that the intended benefits reach more beneficiaries.

The district administrations were advised to expedite and strengthen the implementation of ongoing rural development schemes for the benefit and overall well-being of the people. The officers also stressed the need to conduct awareness programmes at the grassroots level so that rural communities are better informed about the various schemes and their benefits.

Emphasis was also laid on greater convergence among different government schemes and departments to achieve targets effectively and maximise benefits for beneficiaries.

During the interactions, the State Nodal Officer, Shri Altaf Hussain Haji, listened to grievances raised by beneficiaries, including delays in instalment payments under Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana–Gramin (PMAY-G) and pension payments under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP). He directed the concerned district officials to take necessary action and resolve the issues at the earliest.

The visiting officers observed that the Self-Help Groups under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana–National Rural Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NRLM) were performing remarkably well. The SHG members were found to be enthusiastic and committed to achieving the goal of becoming Lakhpati Didis at the earliest.

At the concluding leg of the visit, Shri Altaf Hussain Haji met Shri Sumant Singh, Secretary, Rural Development, Government of Manipur. They discussed the achievements made in the implementation of rural development schemes, as well as various issues concerning their effective implementation. The meeting also focused on addressing minor issues and further strengthening the delivery of rural development programmes in the State.
