DGTS, Mumbai Zonal Unit Organises Outreach Programme on GST and Economic Integration at Goa University

The Directorate General of Taxpayer Services (DGTS), Mumbai Zonal Unit, under the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Department of Revenue, Ministry of Finance, Government of India, in association with Goa University, organised an Outreach Programme on “GST in India: From Tax Reforms to Economic Integration” at Goa Business School, Goa University, Panaji, today.

The programme was organised in association with the Manohar Parrikar School of Law, Governance and Public Policy (MPSLGPP) and Goa Business School (GBS). It brought together faculty members, tax administration officers, students and academic scholars to promote awareness of GST, tax reforms and their role in economic integration.

The programme commenced with the Welcome Address by Sr. Prof. Purva Hegde Dessai, Dean, Goa Business School. Shri Sumit Kumar, Principal Additional Director General, DGTS, Mumbai Zonal Unit, delivered the Keynote Address. He explained the basic framework of GST and highlighted reforms aimed at simplifying compliance, reducing trade barriers, facilitating movement of goods and services and strengthening transparency in tax administration.

The technical session was delivered by CA Shridhar alias Yatish G. Pai Vernekar, Chartered Accountant, Goa. He provided practical insights into GST compliance, statutory books of accounts, electronic compliance and digital reporting.

Students and faculty from M.Com, LL.M. and MBA (Financial Services) programmes actively participated in the interactive session. The programme concluded with the Vote of Thanks by Dr. Kedar Chandrakant, Joint Director, DGTS, Mumbai Zonal Unit.

Earlier, on September 29, 2026, DGTS, MZU, in collaboration with CGST Goa Commissionerate and BITS Pilani, K. K. Birla Goa Campus, organised an outreach programme for students on emerging trends in GST, digital tax administration, data-driven taxpayer services and compliance.

With these initiatives, DGTS, MZU has conducted or participated in 54 outreach programmes since April 2026, comprising 32 Seminars/Webinars/Hybrid events and 22 Interactive Sessions. These initiatives aim to promote taxpayer awareness, voluntary compliance and stakeholder engagement.
