Maharashtra Circle Celebrates National Postal Week 2026, Highlights Growth Across Key Business Verticals

On the occasion of World Post Day and the commencement of National Postal Week 2026, a special cancellation marking World Post Day was released by Shri Ramchandra K. Jayabhaye, Chief Postmaster General, Maharashtra Circle, during a press conference held in Mumbai today.

Addressing the media, Shri Jayabhaye highlighted the Maharashtra Circle’s growth of approximately 28% to 39% across four key business verticals, namely Parcels, Mails, International Relations and Global Business, and Postal Life Insurance (PLI) / Rural Postal Life Insurance (RPLI).

A presentation showcasing the progress of Maharashtra Circle, the various products and services offered by India Post, and new initiatives undertaken by the Department of Posts was also made during the press conference. Ms. Simran Kaur, Director Postal Services (Headquarters), Maharashtra Circle, welcomed the members of the press and media and responded to their queries.

Shri Jayabhaye conveyed his best wishes to employees and customers through social media and urged all employees to extend postal services to every eligible customer. He also highlighted the contributions of the Department of Posts in Maharashtra and Goa.

Key Achievements of Maharashtra Circle

The Department of Posts continues to play a significant role in delivering postal, financial, insurance and citizen-centric services across Maharashtra and Goa. The key achievements as of 30 September 2026, or during the financial year 2026–27 up to that date, include:

  • Live accounts: 3.59 crore as of September 2026.
  • India Post Payments Bank (IPPB): 1.92 crore accounts and 1.14 crore Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) beneficiaries.
  • Aadhaar services: 8.37 lakh Aadhaar enrolments and updates.
  • Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK): 2.82 lakh appointments handled.
  • Speed Post: 10.21 crore articles booked and delivered.
  • Speed Post Parcels: 26.90 lakh articles booked and delivered.
  • India Post Parcel Contractual: 10.39 lakh articles booked and delivered.
  • India Post Parcel Retail: 15.95 lakh articles booked and delivered.
  • International Tracked Packet Service (ITPS): 13.90 lakh articles booked and delivered.
  • International EMS: 1.14 lakh articles booked and delivered.
  • Foreign Air Parcels: 0.23 lakh articles booked and delivered.

Special Night Camps During Ganeshotsav

Highlighting innovative outreach initiatives, Maharashtra Circle organised special night camps during Ganeshotsav and Navratri to bring postal and financial services closer to citizens.

During the Ganeshotsav night camps, 11,313 Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) accounts were opened, 518 PLI/RPLI policies were issued with a total premium of ₹1.22 crore, 570 Child Enrolment Lite Client (CELC) transactions were undertaken, 591 general insurance services were provided, and 21 My Stamp orders were facilitated.

National Postal Week 2026 is being observed in line with the evolving role of the Department of Posts and the wide range of services it offers to citizens. This year’s celebrations will focus on the growing integration of technology and innovation in postal operations and the Department’s continued efforts to make postal services more accessible, convenient and customer-centric.

  • 14 October 2026 (Wednesday): Mails & Parcels Day
  • 15 October 2026 (Thursday): Technology & Innovation Day

World Post Day – 9 October 2026

World Post Day is observed annually on 9 October to commemorate the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874. The day highlights the role of postal services in the everyday lives of people and businesses, as well as their contribution to global social and economic development.

The theme for World Post Day 2026 is “World Post Day: One Postal Network, Infinite Possibilities.”

Fun with Philately Day – 12 October 2026

Maharashtra Circle will promote philately through initiatives that highlight the educational, cultural and historical significance of stamps and postal materials. The key activities and achievements include:

  • Philatelic Deposit Accounts: 11,720 accounts currently maintained in the Circle.
  • Philatelic Exhibitions: Showcasing rare stamps and postal materials.
  • Special Covers and Customised My Stamps: 25 Special Covers and seven customised My Stamps released during the current year.
  • Philatelic Seminars and Workshops: Activities to promote awareness and encourage wider participation in philately.

Financial Inclusion & CCS Day – 13 October 2026

On Financial Inclusion & CCS Day, Maharashtra Circle will reaffirm its commitment to extending accessible and modern financial services to every citizen. With more than 3.53 crore live Post Office Savings Bank (POSB) accounts, post offices continue to serve as trusted centres for savings, insurance, Aadhaar and social security services.

Technology is transforming customer services through Core Banking, Internet and Mobile Banking, ePassbook, Aadhaar-based e-KYC and interoperable Branch Post Office services. India Post Payments Bank further strengthens this network through digital and doorstep banking, UPI, Aadhaar Enabled Payment System (AePS) and Direct Benefit Transfer services, including support for Maharashtra’s Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana.

As part of the celebrations, Dak Chaupals will be organised at every Sub-Division and Head Post Office to bring POSB, PLI/RPLI and Aadhaar services closer to citizens.

Maharashtra Circle remains committed to delivering simple, accessible and technology-enabled financial services to every citizen, reaching the last mile with trust and care.

Mails & Parcels Day – 14 October 2026

To mark Mails & Parcels Day, the Department of Posts will undertake activities to strengthen operational efficiency and customer engagement.

The Mail Sorting Section will organise a sorting contest among Sorting Assistants working in various Railway Mail Service (RMS) offices to promote efficiency and accuracy in mail processing.

The Business Development Section, Circle Office, Mumbai, will organise a business meet with the top 25 customers from the Mumbai and Navi Mumbai regions. The participating customers will be felicitated in recognition of their association with India Post.

International Mail – Connecting India to the World

India Post offers convenient international mailing solutions through International Speed Post (EMS), International Air Parcels and International Tracked Packet Service (ITPS) at attractive rates for individuals, exporters and small businesses.

Designated post offices provide assistance with documentation, packaging, booking and dispatch, making international shipments convenient. These services enable individuals to send gifts and personal consignments to family and friends abroad, while providing exporters and small businesses with a reliable channel to connect with customers and markets worldwide.

ITPS, which offers an economical option for international shipments of up to 5 kg, has recorded growth in traffic over the past three financial years.

The figures indicate an increase in ITPS traffic, reflecting the growing use of India Post’s international mailing services.

Technology & Innovation Day – 15 October 2026

To promote technological awareness and innovation, all administrative offices and selected post offices across Maharashtra and Goa will organise a Technology Quiz for employees and customers. The initiative aims to encourage awareness of technological advancements and their role in improving postal operations and customer services. Through these initiatives, Maharashtra Circle aims to make postal services more accessible, efficient and responsive to the evolving needs of citizens and businesses.
