Western Railway’s Mumbai Central Division has launched a 15-day special intensive ticket checking campaign, ‘Operation DEEP’ (Detect, Examine, Enforce, Penalize), from 31st October to 14th November 2026, in view of the anticipated surge in passenger traffic during the Diwali festive season. The initiative aims to curb ticketless and irregular travel, strengthen travel discipline and ensure a smooth and comfortable journey for bonafide passengers.

Chief Public Relations Officer, Western Railway, Shri Vineet Abhishek, stated that a substantial increase in passenger footfall is expected during the festive period. To manage the rush and ensure compliance with railway regulations, dedicated ticket checking squads have been deployed across railway stations and on-board trains throughout the Mumbai Central Division.

Under the campaign, ticket checking activities are being undertaken across four strategic operational pillars represented by the acronym DEEP. These include Detecting ticketless and irregular travellers, Examining tickets and verifying valid identity credentials, Enforcing railway rules to prevent overcrowding and maintain travel discipline, and penalizing offenders under the provisions of the Railways Act.

Western Railway has appealed to all commuters and passengers to purchase and travel with valid railway tickets to ensure a hassle-free journey and avoid penal action. Passengers are also encouraged to make use of digital ticketing facilities for greater convenience.
