SEEPZ-SEZ strengthens Green Energy Infrastructure; Electricity Tariff reduced from ₹8.65 to ₹5.60 per unit

Posted On: 05 NOV 2026 6:31PM by PIB Mumbai

Santacruz Electronic Export Processing Zone (SEEPZ-SEZ) has achieved 100% green electricity supply and delivered savings of ₹32.5 crore in electricity costs to its consumers during FY 2025–26, marking a significant step towards sustainable industrial development and enhanced export competitiveness.

The revised tariff benefits 243 units and other utilities, covering a total of 495 electricity consumers operating in the Jewellery, Electronics and IT sectors. Under the Adani Electricity SEEPZ Limited (ASL) tariff structure, the electricity rate within the zone is ₹5.60 per unit, compared to ₹8.65 per unit outside the zone.

The tariff reduction follows the efforts of the SEEPZ-SEZ Authority to strengthen the power distribution framework by bringing Adani Electricity SEEPZ Limited (ASL) on board as a co-developer. The new distribution framework became operational on 1st November 2023. Under this arrangement, ASL has been supplying 100% green electricity to the zone since July 2026. Earlier, in January 2025, following representations by the SEEPZ-SEZ Authority and the SEEPZ Gems and Jewellery Association (SGJMA), the Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) approved the revised tariff, which came into effect from 1st April 2025.

The savings are expected to increase further, with annual savings projected to reach ₹54 crore by FY 2029–30 at current consumption levels.

Expanding Solar Power

The SEEPZ-SEZ Authority has also installed solar power plants at the Mega Common Facility Centre (CFC) and NEST-1. Solar infrastructure is being further extended to NEST-2 and the rooftops of other buildings across SEEPZ.

Strengthening Power Infrastructure

The zone's distribution system comprises 48 substations with an aggregate capacity of 53 MVA and approximately 30 km of underground cabling. This infrastructure supports a power demand of around 35–40 MW, ensuring reliable power supply with minimal interruptions. ASL is planning to implement Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC)-approved Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), while additional substations are being developed to improve grid resilience and strengthen energy security for supplying green energy to every unit in SEEPZ.

With the SEEPZ 2.0 redevelopment expected to increase the zone's power requirement to 70–80 MW, the SEEPZ-SEZ Authority is planning to augment its electrical infrastructure in parallel with upcoming developments, including NEST-3, to ensure reliable, affordable and green power for future growth. The initiative reflects the SEEPZ-SEZ Authority's commitment to making Indian exports greener, more cost-competitive and globally resilient.
