Cargo Handling Capacity of Ports

The port-wise cargo handling capacity of Major Ports during 2020-21 is given as under:

During 2020-21, the total capacity of Major Ports was 1560.61 MTPA which was adequate to handle the movement of cargo. The total traffic handled during 2020-21 was 672.68 MT.

Infrastructure development and capacity augmentation of Major Ports is a continuous process. It involves construction of new berths and terminals, mechanization of existing berths and terminals, capital dredging for deepening of drafts for attracting larger vessels, development of road and rail connectivity etc. The details of projects approved / awarded during 2020-21 are as under:-
