Vice President Condoles the Death of Shri K. Subrahmanyam
The Vice President of India Shri M. Hamid Ansari has deeply condoled the sad demise of Shri K. Subrahmanyam, the doyen of the strategic affairs community in India, a distinguished former civil servant and a prolific writer. In his condolence message, he has said that Shri Subrahmanyam remains one of the key architects of our security policy doctrine. He was instrumental in sensitising policy makers and citizenry to strategic issues and helping formulation of policy options to tackle them. His regular writings in newspapers simplified complex subjects to the lay public and will be sorely missed.

Following is the text of the Vice President’s condolence message :

“I am deeply grieved to learn about the sad demise of Shri K. Subrahmanyam, the doyen of the strategic affairs community in India, a distinguished former civil servant and a prolific writer.

Shri Subrahmanyam remains one of the key architects of our security policy doctrine. As founding Director of the Institute for Defence Studies and Analyses, he was one of the first to have actively encouraged and initiated a process of strategic analysis and thinking among policy makers, the media and even common citizens. As Convenor of the first National Security Advisory Board, he was instrumental in the drafting of our nuclear doctrine. His contribution as the Chairman of the Kargil Review Committee was seminal. He was instrumental in sensitising policy makers and citizenry to strategic issues and helping formulation of policy options to tackle them. His regular writings in newspapers simplified complex subjects to the lay public and will be sorely missed.

My wife joins me in sending our heartfelt condolences to the members of the bereaved family and the wide circle of his admirers and friends and pray the Almighty to give them strength to withstand this loss.”
