Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University to be Established at Jhansi
Pusa Krishi Mela 2014 Inaugurated

Agriculture and Food Processing Industries Minister, Shri Sharad Pawar today announced the establishment of Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University at Jhansi.

The Minister informed that Parliament passed the Rani Lakshmi Bai Central Agricultural University Bill, 2012 last week. This bill seeks to meet the needs of Bundelkhand region. The university will have jurisdiction over the Bundelkhand region, coverning seven districts in Uttar Pradesh and six in Madhya Pradesh. Initially, two colleges will be established at Jhansi and two colleges will later be set up in Madhya Pradesh. The colleges for agriculture & horticulture and forestry will be in UP while the colleges for veterinary & animal sciences and fisheries will be in MP.

The key objectives of the university will be to impart education in different branches of agriculture and allied sciences, undertake research in agriculture and programmes of extension education in Bundelkhand region, and to promote linkages with national and international educational institutes.

Shri Pawar also inaugurated Pusa Krishi Mela, the annual farm fair of the Indian Institute of Agricultural Research. A large number of farmers, besides farm scientists, attended the event.

MOS (Rural Development) Shri Pradeep Jain ‘Aditya’ also addressed the gathering.
